Five Parachutists Die in Crash
BRYAN, Texas (AP) — Five members of a skydiving club were killed
Saturday when their skydiving airplane crashed and burned shortly after
takeoff, authorities said.
The victims were aboard a 1958 Cessna 182 belonging to Ags Over Texas
that crashed about 7 p.m. near Coulter Field, said Brian Dismukes, a
trooper with the Department of Public Safety.
``Witnesses said the plane appeared to stall, banked to the right and
then nosed down into a field from about 400 feet,'' he said.
Four people, including the pilot, were pronounced dead at the scene. A
fifth person died a short time later at St. Joseph Regional Health
Center
in Bryan, Dismukes said.
Victims ranged in age from 22 to 27.
Officials from the National Transportation Safety Board will survey the
wreckage Sunday morning and investigate what may have caused the
crash, Dismukes said.

BRYAN, Texas (AP) - Five members of a skydiving
club were killed Saturday when their single-engine
airplane crashed and burned shortly before 7 p.m.,
officials said.
One critically injured victim was pronounced dead at
St. Joseph Regional Health Center in Bryan, the
Department of Public Safety said.
She was identified as Lela Futch, 27, of Cisco, who
was celebrating her birthday by skydiving, the DPS
said.
The victims were aboard a 1958 Cessna 182
belonging to Ags Over Texas that crashed shortly
after takeoff from its home base of Coulter Field,
two miles east of Bryan, DPS trooper Brian Dismukes
said.
``Witnesses said the plane appeared to stall,
banked to the right and then nosed down into a
field from about 400 feet,'' Dismukes said.
Pilot Rob Puryear, 22, of Bryan-College Station;
Jonathan Warden, 25, of Bryan; Mark Woodings, 27,
of The Woodlands and Sarah Miller, 18, of San
Antonio, were pronounced dead at the scene by
Precinct 4 Justice of the Peace Patrick Meece.
After receiving his commercial pilot's rating, Puryear
began flying planes for Ags Over Texas in July of
1998, according to the group's website. He was also
a skydiver.
The group, which has been operating for more than
12 years, is registered with the United States
Parachute Association.
Brazos County Sheriff's Department Chief Deputy
Clyde Collins said he was at his residence when he
heard the plane stall.
``I heard the plane accelerate and, all of a sudden,
cut off,'' he said.
Officials from the National Transportation Safety
Board will survey the wreckage Sunday morning,
Dismukes said.
Meece ordered autopsies on each of the victims.

Nope its not been good as far as air vehicle incidents in the US. Sooner or
later some wuffo buracrat in the FAA will be calling for FAA inspectors to be
stationed on the DZ's. No use jumping to conclusions till the NTSB investigates
but anytime you climb on a aircraft you don't own & thats doing a lot of quick
takeoff's & landings with adrenaline junkies while trying to keep costs down by
useing semi amature young pilots your playing russian roulett. That DZ is just
up the road from Waller, its a shame, we all have to do the big sleep at the
end but they were pretty young, hadn't really had a chance to live yet.
Condolances to A&M & their loved ones. I guess thats one reason skydivers
cain't wait to get out of the jump plane, besides being cramped in a fart
chamber & having someone sit on your legs I mean. :-) snuffy
sheep can't coyotes can
Cypress or not fly like ewe don't have one, stay perimeter & altitude aware,
pull yer handles in order, Got questions research deja or talkway lot of dum
answers thar
Damn not another one. Skythoughts and condolences for all involved. I
really hate to hear of those just beginning having the flame
extinguished before they get a chance to really live life.

"Shannanigans"
: Pilot Rob Puryear, 22, of Bryan-College Station;
Rob: looks like an Eagle Scout recruiting poster boy. You had
to talk with him a little while to find out he wasn't.
: Jonathan Warden, 25, of Bryan;
Jon: looks like a hard case. After a while, you could discover
he's as soft hearted as they come. Just married a few months.
A skydiving natural, he made it all look easy.
: Mark Woodings, 27,
Mark: the DZO, the heart of AOT. Writing about Mark would be
just stringing together all the standard cliches that are
dragged out on these occasions. In his case, they are all true.
All of them way too young.
Blue skies forever my friends,
RM
