Why bother with gear? It's doubtful you'll survive the first jump
anyway. Just go for it and get that 'one big, final rush.' Be sure to
leave a note.

Funny conversation recently with a couple of wuffos--from their
explanation of recent happenings in Italy, I was sure they were
talking about tandem BASE jumping.
It took awhile to determine that what had really happened was a
tandem paraglider flight.

A tandem BASE jump was done in Australia by an English guy called Jason
Rooney in 1993.
He attached a climbing and tape harness to his base rig. He and a
whuffo friend static lined from Mooney Mooney bridge (246ft) near Sydney
using a Commet 220 canopy and landed in the water. The canopy opening
on heading but came in pretty fast. The whuffo headbutted Jason in the
face with the back of his head on landing and gave Jason a bleeding
nose.
Incedently Jason frapped in from Blues Point Tower (230ft) in Sydney a
year later. What happened is not exactly known but his pilot chute was
still in its pocket. It was thought that he may have jumped up onto the
edge before handing someone or tapeing his pilot chute and slipped off.

Jarhead,
I really hope that your not serious about getting into basejumping after
one tandem. I would reccemend that you learn to skydive for a while
before trying to jump from anything lower than 3000'. You really need to
learn a lot about body control in the air first. I think anyone would
tell you the same unless they want to see you die.

Too late, already been done. Jay Rooney (the same British idiot who went in
a while later) made a very crude harness and took a complete whuffo off a
bridge in NSW, Australia a few years back. Naturally the landing was anything
but pretty, then again, two people under the one BASE canopy, and the one and
a half second canopy ride don't make for soft landings.

That's why they should have done a BASE "Mr. Bill!"- Then you don't have
to worry about landing two people under a heavily loaded BASE canopy ;->.
May sound outrageous, but a Mr. Bill was done off the the Bridge at Bridge
Day last year. It's on Forshay's '96 Lemmings tape for those who doubt. (I
have a link for Will's "Lemmings" tapes on my "Bridge Day" website if you
want to get a copy). Shit seems to get wilder with each successive year; I
can't wait to see what's up for '97.........

I have an even better idea. We should get one of those ski jump ramps,
lube it up with oil (although skydivers probably have more KY jelly as
their sheep will attest ;->), and ski jump off it. Or roller blade off the
ramp. So many interesting possibilities of how to fling one's self from a
bridge........ Any BASE jumping carpenters know anything about building
ski ramps ;->?

Jason Rooney jumped a building in Australia with a surf board attached to
his feet. He landed on the beach, cutaway his canopy, removed his feet from
the attachments on his surfboard, and ran away (JUMP RUN). Ground crew
removed the canopy and surfboard.
