Accident in Oppdal in Norway
----------------------------
Saturday morning, a man about 20 years old were severe injured in a
skydiving accident in Oppdal in Sør-Trøndelag county. He was
participating in a skydiving meeting at Fagerhaug airport in Oppdal,
where about 100 skydivers were participating.
The man was airlifted to St. Olavs hospital in Trondheim with severe
injuries, but condition is stable according to the hospital.
Details about this accident is currently not known. The following
and short details is according to a press release and may NOT be 100%
accurate:
The main, that should have been deployed at about 3000 feet, were
deployed at about 1000 feet. Almost simultanouosly as the main
deployed, the reserve was also deployed and became entangled into the
main. Due to this, no canopies were operational and the man hit the
ground at high speed.
According to a press release, and due to these two recent accidents
where Norwegians were involved, the Norwegian Airsport Federation will
probably come up with proposals for new and increased safety
regulations.

FYI, the "Norwegian Airsport Federation" (Norges Luftsports
Forbund), or more exactly the Parachute section of it, have
been working on new regulations for quite some time. An
updated handbook (like the BSRs for you Americans :o) are
being updated as we speak and a new version will come out
late this year.
And no, an AAD mandate is not being considered at this moment.
