I'm been outta touch the last 2 years on Snowboarding gear and would like
some advice.

I'm an alpine hard boot rider, but this season I think it's time to try a
softboot setup. Now a couple of years ago I had my mind on a Burton
Supermodel setup with step-in bindings.

I notice the Supermodel no longer is made, what is the equivalent? What is
recommeded in Burton's line-up. I was also considering a Custom.

What are the best step-ins? I quite liked the look of the Switch Highbacks,
but maybe the Burton SI system is better.

Though anyone?

Hi there

I have ridden Burton Si step in's for the past two years and they are good
there is no doubt about it ...

Flows have always been in the back of my mind though ... :)

Last year however a low chair hit the back of my burtons - and the high back
snapped off - I got excellent service from the local burton dealer and the
hi back was replaced with 48 hours ...

Apparently a problem with carbon bindings and temperature fluctuations. And
that the carbon attaches to the base plate - a built in weakness ... Not too
sure what if anything they have done to resolve this, in later models -
especially this years.

Anyway other problems are off piste - in the event you need to get out of
and get back into the Burton Si's in powder - it is not fun ...

This year I invested in a pair of flow's fl21's (I think) (Salomon boots)
and it really was a new experience ... and even though i have only ridden
them - in the Milton Keynes snowdome for a few hours - I would now swear by
them ...

I am heading out for France within the next few days so should be able to
tell you more in about 20 days ... ;)

Hey Kim, those fl 19s look really groovy! I think I'll check em out.

God knows how you can test anything in that iddy biddy snowdome though :)

Let us all know how well they performed, though I'll probably all set up and
snowboarding by then. It's getting around that time of the year (-17deg)
outside :)

Oh yeah. Is it recommended to get Flow Boots with Flow Bindings? Or can I
just find the most comfortable boot for myself.

Hey there Will,

I picked up a pair of salomon synapses ... and they fitted in fine ... if
you do buy the boots at the same time as the bindings - best idea is to
check ... i.e. slot em in ...

I have heard some boots do not fit that well other ... like a charm ...

Luckily I had the bindings first on the board so took it into a shop tried
on the boots and then slotted me in ...

Had another work out in the snowdome today ... ace ...

Loved em ...

Will,

The replacement for the Supermodel is the Cascade. But an even better board,
IMO is the BMC, preferably in the longest length you can get.

I previously owned a Supermodel 63 (and now own a BMC 168) and the BMC seems
much faster and feels more stable at speeds, the float in pow is incredible
(I weigh 200+). The 63 felt floppy in comparison, but to give it it's due,
it was pretty good in the pow...

I would buy the BMC over the Supermodel, even with the additional cost,
because you are looking for stiffness. The BMC is the more stiff of the two
boards. You won't be disappointed...
