I'm off there on Feb 10 on a late booking.
How are the snow conditions there?
I've heard that the pistes are poorly marked and that it is the snowboard
capital of France. Is this true?
Good/bad points?

My girlfriend works at one of the UCPA centers (Venosc) there. The
snow's been bad but it snowed 12 cms last night. More seems to be on
the way.

I was in Les 2 Alpes 26/01 until 2/02 - it was a very sunny but, at times,
bitterly cold week. There was only one very small fall of snow one night.
Most runs had excellent cover but it was packed snow . Only a couple of the
blacks to the village were open.

I left on Sunday. It snowed for the previous 20 hours. Previously,
snow conditions were good thanks to very cold weather. Not much ice
but a few rocks. My board got quite beaten up.

The piste map isn't the best.

If not Avoriaz.

Good:
good conditions at altitude.
glacier wasn't busy thanks to the cold weather.
bad:
Lift queues at La Toura for chairlifts (old and slow) and the Jiandri
express.
Lots of flat paths (why is it the snowboarding capital of France?).
Crowded pistes.
Not as big as it looks. We did the same pistes every day.

It was painful at times last week!

: bad:

Agreed - I don't think I like (or would go back to) LDA. Why (oh! why)
is their ONLY detactable 6-man chairlift isolated down a side
valley serving two blue runs and a black! The La Toura (and other)
ancient fixed lifts in strategic positions need an upgrade!

: Lots of flat paths (why is it the snowboarding capital of France?).

Plus poorly laid out lift system - FAR too much walking!

: Crowded pistes.

Seconded! We had a day out to Serre Chevalier and (part from more draglifts)
all enjoyed it much more than LDA!
