Watching Olympic tapes reminded me of the sad story of Vegard Ulvang's
brother. He disappeared on a training run in October. Did
they find his body in the Spring as expected?

Yes, they did. From the place they found him (in a small lake underneath
the power line parallel to the path he had intended to follow), I assume
he decided to follow the power line after getting caught by the sudden
snowfall. Then, very unfortunately, the thin ice must have broken
under him.

Was reading an article in Track the other day where the author pondered whether
Ulvang could overcome the loss of his brother and make a strong comeback this
winter. From this I infer that his brother was never found.

Actually, they did find Vegard Ulvang's brother. He was dead.
He had fallen through thin ice.

This summer someone on Rec.Olympics posted that they DID find

Kjetil Ulvang in a lake that was on the way from where he was last seen and

home. I guess you could infer that he fell through the ice.

Ski Trax magazine had a short note which mentioned that he was found.
I think the body was found in a lake.

I'm pretty sure he was found last May in the lake that they originally
suspected he had fallen into. There was an interesting story about
how his girlfriend had a child(his) just about the same time they found
him. Anyone confirm??

This is almost correct, but it was later in the spring, ca. June

I thought I herd during the Olympics or shortly after that they had found his
brother, but I'm not sure. From what I remember, his brother was found frozen
in a lake or small pond, but I could be totally off on that.

Anyone else hear anything?

IMHO though, Ulvang should have no trouble dealing with the loss now and
should be back on track. If he does not perform this year, his brothers
death would be a poor excuse.

By the way, when is it ever going to snow here? If it doesn't in the next
couple of weeks I'm going to go crazy.

Wasn't it in this forum that I heard they had found his brother's body in
a lake near their home? Apparently he had fallen through the ice.
Anyway, this is the book according to how I remember it, so don't quote
me.
