The Mid-Hudson Cross Country Ski Society has commenced group training for
the 2002-03 season. Actually a bunch of folks have been getting togteher but
they are not regular posters in RSN, and they probably don't think that
their activities are newsworthy. In my opinion any time more than one roller
skier gets out for a training run in the Mid-Hudson Valley the horns need to
blow. If any one wants to learn about our little group's activities go to:
http://www.roberts-1.com/mhxcss/discussion/#subscribe. Seems that weekend
work outs are rotated between the Orange County Heritage Trail, The Harlem
Valley Rail Trail, and the Yorktown/Westchester Rail Trail.

Today Janice Sibelia and I met an hour before the rest at the Harlem Valley
Rail Trail in Amenia. We did 60 minutes of skating. I had on the new Jenex
125 Aero skate. On my last outing when I rolled on a gravel rail bed I got a
flat, so today I had to use a "lumpy" spare tire. (See an earlier Jenex 125
Aero Skate report post for clarification.)

Then Mark Jones of CT., and Eric Pederson of of lower Hudson Valley met up
with us and we did a couple of hours classical skiing. Later Paul Kuznia,
famous groomer and manager of Fahenstock Winter Park which has to be one of
the finest places to ski on earth and the most southern most groomed area in
New York State, caught us. Our classic ski ensemble was split between Jenex
V-2 and Proski. We met a novice skier on the trail who was trying out a pair
of new Proskis he bought on E-Bay for $140.00.

Janice is recoverying from knee surgery required to repair injuries caused
by a nasty fall in icy conditions last winter. She is organizing a Ben
Husaby coached dry land camp the first week in August that will be held at
the Mohonk Preserve. Contact our discussion group or the NYSSRA web page for
more information.

Two other skiers in our party were recoverying from Lyme disease, and one of
those also recoverying from a roller ski fall a few weeks back. I had a fair
share of physical complaints, so images of this group doing workouts
together in wheel chairs occupied my mind. Hopefully we can hold that off
for a while. The weather was sort of maritimish. Humid and not hot. The
Harlem Valley Rail Trail cuts through beautiful landscape, and is not too
busy for a fun and safe, if not too flat workout. One thing about flat
courses is that heart rates stay steady easily.
