Has anybody skied on the Rossi 11.5? I keep reading that extreme skiers are
winning contests on these. How do they compare to the Snow Rangers?

Shane McConkey stopped by the other day talking about a new revolution in,
would you believe, "Fat Skis."

"Fat Skis are where its at, says McConkey. I couldn't believe my ears.
McConkey, in case you've been living under a rock, was the World Extreme
Skiing Champion, as well as top dog in the US, Euro and South American
Extremes. He obviously knows his stuff! My immediate thought was, "Fat skies,
those are for sissies and old folks!" Shane assured me that they are not. He
went on to say that 70% of the competitors in the free skiing competitions are
skiing on fat skis and blowing away the folks on conventional skis.

Rossignol Cut 11.5 BC Dualtec -- $629

Our testers skied on the 188-cm length and found it to be a big carving machine
that isn't afraid of speed and can float well in crud. We think most skiers,
big beefy experts excluded, will probably prefer this ski in a shorter length.
"This ski's best feature is its flotation. A bit of work for lighter skiers in
this length," said Betsey Kiehl. "Secure and stable, you can go really fast on
these puppies," said Ulrica Johansson. Length tested: 188. Lengths available:
168, 188, 193.

Snow ranger  "The Hummer of the all-terrain
category. It's unstoppable."
- Ski Country Magazine The highest performance, most versatile all
terrain/powder ski for skiers who want to
tackle all conditions and any terrain. Wide-waisted, exaggerated side-cut will
float through powder and crud, and cruise the
groomed with ease. Will improve any skier's ability in softer snow. Lengths:
170-200 ea. 10 cm

TWFX1, you can stop quoting Ski Country Magazine. When it comes to
ski reviews they have ZERO credibility.
A couple of seasons ago they had a ski ranked poorly. Once the manufacturer
threatened to pull advertising money out, the ski ranking "magically"
improved.
How's that for objectivity ?

Same could be said jfor most all the tests - Imagine a magazine stating that a
particular ski was overpriced and offered nothing - Zap goes the advertising
revenue. - Also, the testers get caught up in the lanquage and try to be cute
- . It is like trying to decipher some of the articles that are trying to
teach the finer points of skiing - God, a person has to have a masters degree
in physics, and if they do, they realize that the teacher is full of s- - - .
One of the latest tests talks about the first ski with shape - Were there ever
any skis that didn't have shape??????
