I don't know about the Salomons, but I can tell you about the 7XKs. 1.
I've found them to be a very stable ski, though that's really a comparison to
Kastle slalom skis (last year I skied on two pairs of skis--red Kastle slalom
skis and a pair of purple 7XKs). 2. You *really* don't want to take them in
the bumps, unless you plan to buy new skis shortly, since it's *very* easy to
bend the tip so that it won't pop back (my father, a ski instructor at
Sunday River, said that the Skier Dev locker room was littered with bent 7XKs
a couple of weeks after they first came in).

I've had really good luck with the skis; I came in 7th in my age group at the
Sugarloaf Super-G last year on them. They're a good moderate-to-high speed
cruising ski on groomed terrain, but bumpy terrain is dangerous for the skis.

Howdy Gang...
Thought I'd jump in here, lets be more presice(?) about which year and
which ski. In '95-'96 the Super Force 9.1 3S's are a completely different
ski than the older black and orange Super Force 9 3S's. IMHO the tail on
the older Super was a little stiff, and the ski was a little slow compared
to my Verts.(actually I'm just not the athelete that Edgar is, may be I'd
like them better if I was) I've actually have had a lot of oportunity to
ski various Salomon Force products, and in one way or another really liked
them all. My S.O.(signifcant other) has some power 7 Force 9's that I
steal all the time when the snow is deep and the bumps are soft, it's
almost as if the ski is giggling along with me.
The new Super is something all together different. Double cap over a
wood core. I expected it to be some what sluggish and heavy, but boy was
I WRONG! This ski made anything else I've skied on look and seem slow,
very quick on entry phase, and rebound power, incredable, they took to an
incredably tight round carved turn, that I could alter at will. I'm even
going to spend my hard earned money on a pair.
I'm sure some people would find the ski "hiper", and unstable as
comparied to some of the other more predictable sorts out there like the
5SM, or the Viper "S".
Fun skiis in there own right, but not what I am looking for. But I'm the
type that sets my 911 up with 2 deg negative camber, and some extra toe
out... I ride criterium frame sets for turing, I rocker my roller blades,
I usually run a couple more pounds of pressure in the tires of my Vee than
others do...in small terms I seem to like thing happen FAST.
So the bottom line, get out there and ski some of the new stuff, and
be aware of the change at Salomon in the Super Force Line!

til next time...

Except for large cliffs, I fit the go anywhere - do anything category. I also skied all last year on F9 2Ss. Name a condition - we s=
kied it and the F9s were great. I started calling them my "magic sticks."

Had no durability problems either.

I have a pair of Super Force 9 2S from last year and I love them. They
are very good in all conditions. They are not the best for a single
condition other than having the versitility to handle anything you throw
at them. The Rossis I have skied are rather old so comparisons there
wouldn't be accurate but I have skied my dad's K2 Extremes (2 yrs old).
The Extremes are more stable and have a little better edgehold than my
Salomons but they don't have the turning ease or quickness of the
Salomons. For one ski = all conditions the Super Force 9 2S is a great
choice.

I bought a pair of the Salomon Super Force 9 3s last year. The "Hot" spot
was way to far back. To really get the edge to dig in you have to sit
in the back seat. I asked a local coach, who is an ex pro-moguler, and
he said that was the reason he and a number of others didn't use that
ski, so I'm not alone.

I don't know about the 1s or 2s and I ski almost strictly bumbs.

Can anyone describe/comment on the differences between the Force 9 2S
compared to the Super Force 9.1 2S?

Thanks,

Adam

Anyone ever drag a pair of F9 2Ss down a huge mogul field at Mach 1? Is the ski so stiff that you are
limited to sking the tops of the bumps, or can you get down into the troughs as well?

Thanks for the advice,

Kevin

Craig -
When the Salomon Force 9's were first introduced, I instantly fell in love
with the 2S version. The Super Force 9 2S and the Force 9.1 2S are both
variations on the original Force 9. The 3S is more of a mogul or bump
ski; the 2S is a bit more stable and has a slalom cut. The 2S is billed
as an "extreme" or "all around" ski.

I'm not the greatest skier around, but before the Force 9 I had problems
skiing crud and powder; especially Sierra Cement. After the Force 9s, I
found I could ski almost everything. Now I look for powder and crud!

In my opinion, it's a GREAT, GREAT ski! I can't judge the Rossi, however,
I left Rossi 4SKs to ski Force 9s. Since the Super Force 9 is technically
discontinued, I would recommend looking for a pair at early season sales;
you may luck out and find a pair heavily discounted. For the price
differential, I really can't imagine the Force 9.1s being much better.

Good luck. Aaron [DBL...@prodigy.com]

Don't know about the others, but I just bought a pair of K2 Extremes. I
never got to demo them but they're supposed to be good short-turn all
mountain skiis. Good in the bumps and great edge-hold on ice. If anyone
can tell me anything else, please do.

Can't wait for the snow to start. Bring it on!

The 2s is the ski he would be referring to since he said all
mountain do anything ski. I like mine. The "sweet spot" is a little
far back though. Not too far on the 2S, but it could be farther
forward. It is a good ski for all mountain.

I hadn't heard anyone accusing the the Super F9 3S of this before,
but thanks for the info. If you like the bumps go to Hart F-17 (I
guess the F-17t this year) or the Dynastar Vertical Assault. I
personally think that Dynastar has the liveliest skiis this year.

Well I've skied all of the above mentioned skiis, and the older Force 9
& Super Force 9 are really nice skis. My S.O. (signifcant other) has
older Force 9 3Ss power 7s that I steal all of the time. BUT THE NEW
SUPER 9.1 3S IS HEAD AND SHOULDER ABOVE THE OLD SUPER. Sorry about
shouting that but it is so and to appreciate the difference you must ski
the new ski. It is based on the 9100 3s (side cut) and is the quickest
carving, highest energy ski I have ever skied on, and by the by I've ski
about every bump ski out there from every THE SKI to the RBL's I helped
designed. So saying the old Super and the new Super 9.1 are equivalent is
silly, it would be like saying the older "G" series 911 is equivalent with
the new 993. Both are charming Porsche (I have a SC), but the differences
are stunning!
GO SKI THEM FIRST!

Why does the Olddogger dude insist upon mentioning his Porsche in every

Good question, I'll try to lend some light on the subject. I find a
high performance automobile and a high performance ski very equivilant
things. Now maybe I'm bring together both of my love into a package
difficult to understand by people who have not real wheel to wheel road
racing expericances that I have. With an SCCA National, and Rocky
Mountain Vintage Liences I've spent a lot of time in open wheel cars at
there limits, Formula 440, Formula Vee, and Formula Ford (hoping to save
enough money to try a winged car one of these days). So a properly train
driver and a well sorted car make a team that is greater than the sum of
its parts. So it is the same with the ski, boot binding package, and the
skier. So when I make equivilant statments about cars and skis it does
have validity, its just maybe not two environments that every one can
under stand. So "Cyberhalo" what kind-a Bravarian Motoren Werken to you
drive, have you ever done a drivers school with her. Every thought about
the equivalance between spring rate, and roll couple in the BMW to the
flex and rebound in your skiis. Its an honest line of though, I bet a
good musican, or a good pilot could make simular tie between a divise that
answers there every command, and a ski that does the same.

Hope that helps
