Yes. 1994-95 was the last season K2 made the Extreme. This year it is
not offered. The TRC is more blue than the extreme. The extreme
is a great allmountain ski from what I have heard from friends.

While I have the fx and am pretty happy with it, I have heard a lot of
good things about the MSL. I am hoping to get out on them sometime
this season and see if I should have waited a couple months to get
them instead of my Extreme's...

How come? I just bought a pair of them last season and love them. Are K2
planning to resume the extreme line someday in the future, or...?

I have both the FX and the MSL. I prefer the MSL in almost any conditions
except bumps, where I like the more forgiving ride of the FX. I plan to
invest some time this winter training those darned MSLs to love bumps
though...

The K2 Extreme FX 8.1 has been discontinued and replace by the all new K2
FX 12.0. If I remember correctly its 12.0 (the sidecut). Looks like they
dropped the Extreme name. It got good reviews in the ski mags and was
praised as an excellent quick turning mogul ski.

Well, K2 still makes the FX (which says Extreme FX on it) but it is not
the same ski. I have no idea why they stopped making it. Maybe they want
people to use the MSL instead? And some new ski called the 4 or something
is coming out Dec 1 95.

But basically, it's still the same ski, right? Would you happen to know what
the differences are between the 12.0 and the FX 8.1 Extreme?

What are the differences between the skis? Has K2 changed the construction or
is it just cosmetic changes?

The FX 8.1 has a 8.1cm side cut and the FX 12.0 has a 12.0cm sidecut. The
FX 12.0 also has the "internal binding isolator" found on the MSL, which
is a separate torsion box floating above the mainbody of the ski. The
binding screws do not penetrate the main torsion box of the ski. It's
intended to reduce vibration transmiitted to the skier.

The new K2 FX 11.2 (extreme) has a different sidecut than the 8.1. I have
no idea how the number system (sidecut) works for K2.

I am somewhat appalled - I delaminated the top surfacr of my K2 KVC Comps,
an old ski, if nothing else- they rocked the house. I am replacing them
witht he Extremes. The 8.0 sidecuts.

However, I am sure that regardless of the sidecuts,and measurements, and
all else, it's how you ski on a particular ski. I myself was very happy
on the KVC's romping through trees, bumps, crud, POW-POW, and down the
chutes at Squaw Valley and Kirkwood.

I would only ask that everyone indicate their choice of usage required
(racing, bumps contests, Chinese downhill, or just good ole out-of-control
skiing) before you spout the added and often unfelt minute differences
between seasonal changes of the equipment. ( I guess sales reps get too
excited)

At least before I hang up my boards for a Burton forever. Jeff Brushie
would be pleased.

Now let me go strangle the K2 rep for not informing me of the changes
before I paid.......

The K2 sidecut numbering system is quite simple. It refers to the depth of
the sidecut. Draw an imaginary line tangent to the front and aft contact
points then measure the sidecut depth at the waist. 12.0 refers to a side
cut that measures 12.0mm at the waist. The deeper the sidecut the smaller
the sidecut radius.
