I was lucky enough to see the Torvill and Dean Face the Music tour a few nights
ago, I say lucky because I didn't see the ad in the newspaper until the day
before, and still managed to get 19th row tickets (guess no one else saw it
either)
Anyway, i thought I would post a little about it.

There are 19 other skaters besides T&D, including Charlene Wong, Scott Williams,
Susie Wynne & Russ Witherby, and of course, Jill Trenary. The show opened with
Bolero, which is always a pleasure to watch, though this time it seemed a bit
slow and stilted. T&D did most of their signature pieces in one shot: a medley
comprising Barnum/Paso Doble/Mack & Mabel. The weird part was that between the
pieces, T&D stood on the ice as 7 other skaters came out to redress them in the
costume appropriate to teh next section. This was a little strange to watch,
and really disturbed the flow of the skating. Jill Trenary skated next after
this, and if I hadn't known that from the program i wouldn't have recognized
her,
since I had never seen her with shoulder-length hair before. It looked good
oner, and she skated beautifully.

There are three "theme" sectiolns involving the full cast; one is a 50's dance
contest, another a medley of Beatles songs, and another to "Carmina Burana"
complete with monks and medieval costuming. The finale was another cast ensemble
to Let's Face the Music and Dance, with T&D's free dance at the end.

That isn't nearly everything they packed into the just over 2 hour show, but it
is enough to go on with. If you get the chance, i would definately see this one!
Excuse the spelling, I only have a masters degree....:)

I saw the same show in the Wembly Arena in London (UK) at the start of the
tour with some others from my skating club. We all thought it was
wonderful. I didn't think that the redressing stopped the action too much.
In fact it gave the audience a chance to have a real good look at the stars.

The best part of the show for me was `Paperback Writer' which showed
Chris Dean as a very accomplished solo skater and choreographer.

Glad you enjoyed the show. When it returns to the UK I am going to see
it again.

Dang -- we didn't get that number in our tour stop (up in Victoria, BC);
the Beatles section consisted of:

Mystery tour -- the company
Strawberry Fields -- the company
Within you, without you -- the company
Lucy in the sky -- Jayne and the boys
She came in through the bathroom window -- Charlene Wong
In my life -- T&D
