SOME U.S. WEBCASTERS EMIGRATE TO SWEDEN

MALMO, Sweden (ADMS) - Some U.S. Webcasters have begun emigrating to
Sweden to avoid the new U.S. royalty rates effective on 20th October.
It appears that Sweden, for the time being anyway, is going to thumb its
nose at U.S.
Super 70s Radio and World Gospel Online Radio have moved their operations
to Malmo, Sweden, in order to avoid the U.S. royalty rates. While webcasters
have to pay royalties in other countries, the rates are a lot less than they
are in the U.S., based on a percentage of income, as opposed to a per-
performance royalty, like in the United States.
Malmo is located in southern Swden, just a short drive over a new bridge
that has been built between Copenhagen and Malmo. It appears that Malmo will
become the new home of Internet radio, because of its convienence to
Kastrup International Airport, just over the border in Copenhagen. For
those reading this on the figure skating newsgroups, Malmo will be hosting
the European Figure Skating Championships, in January.
It is surprising to see a European nation as a safe haven to avoid U.S.
royalties. We expected some of the small island nations in the Pacific which
are, for the most part, completely clueless about regulation the Internet,
and not very likely to regulate the Net anytime soon. Christmas Island,
the Cocos Islands, Tokelau, Niue, the Republic Of Hawaii, and other countries
in the region are known for their lax attitude towards regulating the
Internet.
Then there is the issue of attempts to block access to such Webcasts.
the RIAA filed suit against Listen4Ever, in China, which was dropped after
they went off line. They were going to make the biggest providers in the
U.S. block access to the site. If they try to make foreign webcasters pay the
fees, that could result in U.S. listeners possibly being charged a fee, while
people in other countries would not.
As the ChuckieMonster(tm) noted in the "feedback" section on the RAIN
site a few days ago, either of these scenarios could be foiled by using a
proxy server outside the United States. There are estimated to be more than
300 thousand open HTTP proxies all over the world, many of them located
outside the United States. This could be used to circumvent any blocking that
a court might order, or to fool the servers on where you really are located,
in the event that foreign websites are ever put in a position of having to
charge U.S. listeners a fee.
And it can be done. The London Times charges a fee of about US$80 per year
for surfers outside of England to read the online edition, but that can be
circumvented by using a proxy server in England. The servers think you are
in England, therefore, you do not get the screen that requests your credit
card information, and can read the Times for free. There is no doubt that
astute users have figured that out. Whenever I am going to travel to England,
I do this to get the latest news, before I go there, without having to pay
the subscrption fee, and the Times is never the wiser, becuase, as far as
the servers are concerned, I came in from England, becuase the IP adddress
is recorded as such.

U.S. HOUSE TO VOTE ON ROYALTY REPRIEVE

WASHINGTON, DC (ADMS) - The House is tentatively scheduled to vote this
week on a bill to delay the new royalty rates, scheduled to take effect on
October 20, for 6 months.
This move is an attempt to try and head off what could be a complete
economic DISASTER for the United States, on October 20. There are an
estimated 12,000 companies in the United States that are in some part of the
Webcasting business. If all, or most, of these companies are forced to cease
broadcasting on October 20, America could be looking at the loss of as much
as 1.2 million jobs. This would send America, and the world, into another
deep recession, that might last a decade or more. The world is already in a
recission, that started in 2001.
The bill in question is HR 5649, which delays the royalty rates for
another 6 months, go give the courts, and/or Congress the necessary time to
address the matter, and avoid an economic disaster in the U.S., which, in
our estimation, could push the uemployment rate to levels not seen since
the recession of 1973 to 1984.
And for those reading this on the figure skating newsgroups, I need not
remind you of what the 1973 to 1984 recession did to figure skating in
America, and the western countries, so you, too, need to be aware of the
impending economic disaster. The severe receission, with unemployment rates
going as high as 15 percent at times, absolutely decimated figure skating
in America, and the western countries. Fewer skaters had the resources to
train.
And it took countries decades after the recssion for their programmes to
recover. The Australian program is just getting back on its feet now. The U.S.
went through the ENTIRE decade of the 1980s, without winning ANY Olympic
medals in the ladiesl, pairs, and dance disciplines, and ONE medal in mens,
that being Brian Boitano's 1988 gold. Since 1973, Canada has only finsihed
top 10 in the ladies event once, and that was Liz Manely's 1988 Olymppic
silver medal.

AUSTRALIANS HUGHES, ROBINSON TO COMPETE AT CARRIBBEAN OPEN

NASSAU, Bahamas (ADMS) - Australians Sara Hughes and Jennifer Robinson
will be competing at the Carribbean Open Figure Skating Classic in Freeport.
Sara Hughes made a big impression last season, when she became Australia's
first ladies Olympic figure skating gold medallist in 46 years. She was the
first Australian to win the gold, since Tenley Albright won the gold back
in 1956. Sara was born in Tweed Heads, New South Wales on 12th August 1984.
She comes from a distinguished list of elite skaters over the past few
decades. Nicole Bobeck, Jennifer Robinson, Tonya Harding, and Linda
Fratianne have all come out of the Storm Bay figure skating club. And that
represents skaters from all over Australia.
Sara was born a USA/Australia dual national, becuase one of her parents
is American, and the other is Australia. She has competed for both countries,
in various events, and is already a better skater than Michelle Kwan. She
has beaten Michelle twice in the past year. If she competes for the U.S.,
and wins gold in 2006, she will become America's 5th ladies Olympic gold
medallist.
Jennifer Robinson, who is a dual Canada/Australia national, and a 3-time
Canadian National Champion, as well as a 2-time Canadian Champion, will also
be competing at this event. Jennifer finished 7th at the Olympics last season,
which was her highest ever finish at a major international event. If she wins
Canadian Nationals this year, she will estalish a new record at 4 national
titles. No Canadian woman has won 4 titles at Canadian nationals before.
The two Cuban-Americans, Cohen and Kwan will be competing at the Campbell's
Caribbean Classic. Michelle Kwan and Sasha Cohen won gold and silver,
respectively, at the North American Championships, last season.
Sara Hughes, as the Olympic champion, will be coming into this event
heavily favoured to win. She is now a much better skater than Michelle Kwan
ever was.
The Campbell's Carribbean Classic will take place in Nassau, October 5
and 6 at the Atlantis Grand Arena. Nassau hosted the North American 1992
North American championships.

WORLDNETDAILY WARNS OF PRIME TERROR ATTACK DATES

WASHINGTON, DC (ADMS) - While the right-wing lunatics, at publications such
as WorldNetDaily are normally something not to be agreed with, they have
finally said somethign sensible. They have warned of prime attack dates for
a possible Al-Quaeda attack.
They warn of October 2 and October 7 as possible attack dates. October 2
is the anniversary of Sheik Abdel Al-Rakhman, and October 7 is the anniversary
of when the first shots of the War On Terror were fired in Afghanistan.
The dates were contributed by a organisation calling themesleves Soliders
For Truth. We think they are right. One thing they do NOT mention, when they
mention possible sports events, is what we see as another potential target.
The Campbell's Carribbean Classic figure skating championship will be taking
place on October 5 and 6 at the Atlantis Grand Arena in Nassau, Bahamas.
Australia and the U.S. have been high on Al-Quaeda's hit list, and of the
5 skaters participating in the ladies comeptition, there are 2 Americans
(Kwan, Cohen) and two Australians (Hughes,Robinson) who will be competing at
the event.
This would make the event a possible target, becuase we are talking some
of the world's most elite skaters. Michelle Kwan has 7 North American titles,
which ties the record for the most number of North American of U.S. titles
in ANY discipline. Jennifer Robinson is a Canada/Australia dual, who currently
has 3 Canadian titles to her credit, which ties the record for the most
national titles won by a Canadian woman. Sara Hughes, at the Olympics, became
Australia's first ladies Olympic gold medallist in 46 years.
Practice sessions for the Campbells Carribbean Classic start on October 2,
one of the prime target dates. You also have to consider that the Bahamas are
an easy target, as they do not have the resources to persue any terrorist who
tries anything.

In the ladies competition, this is the current list of partcipants in the
ladies competition

Michelle Kwan United States
Sasha Maruzal Cohen United States
Sara Hughes Australia
Jennifer Robinson Australia
Victoria Volchkove Russia

At least the Bahamas still has the death penalty, as far as we know, and
any terorist is caught will be HANGED, unlike in other countries. The SCUM
from Al-Queda must HANG for their crimes. While this E-zine does not normally
support the death penalty, we DO support it for terrorism.
