The battery that you are referring to can be obtained from those
electronic parts store. These are the same kinds of batteries used
commonly in the computer to keep the clock and other parameter settings
*alive* while the computer is powered off. You should be able to get them
at Fry's or other similar stores in the US.

My manual for the Source refers to "2 3 volt Lithium Batteries
(Duracell DL2032, Radio Shack 23-162, Maxcell CR 2032 or Panasonic CR
2032)...
Vance, many thanks! I think that answers the question.
I received a couple of email messages from folks who were confused about
the change in models from the dealer-replaceable to owner-replaceable
batteries. The newer model Sources are a great improvement, but I still
have several older units in the Dive Locker I can't afford to get rid of.
By the way, I took both a newer model Sherwood Source and a Sherwood
Encore on a 6 week oceanographic cruise to the Antarctic Peninsula (King
George Island to Palmer Station). The water temp. was -1.8 Centigrade.
The Encore faded after about 30 seconds, but the Source worked perfectly
during all 15 dives. I only recently had to change the battery (about
100 dives -- but in more temperate waters -- later).

On another note, the manual for this dive computer claims that it will not
allow you to start a dive if the battery is too low to complete the dive.
We found that this was not so, my wife's newer computer had been running for
a couple of days with the low-battery indicator, but failed 10 minutes into a
dive.
In future, I will carry spare batteries and change them as soon as the low-
battery indicator shows.

Those are hard batteries to come by. I just checked a couple of electronics
catalogs and no one listed them. So on a hunch I ripped open my Mac and
there is was - a 1/2 AA, 3.6 v battery. The one in mine is marked Maxell
ER3S, 3.6 1/2AA, but I recall seeing Tadirans in many. This battery is used
in later model Macintosh SE's, and a number of Mac II's and later Macs.
You can get them mail order from Soft Solutions, 1-800-264-2530, for about
$8 (plus massive s&h if you just want just one). Any Apple Dealer should
also have them - they'll probably want a bit more but you'll save s&h)
Incidetnly, Radio shack stores can quick-order many batteries that aren't
in their catalog if you can get a clerk interested in calling in the order.
These should also fit early Oceanic DataMax Sports which are identical.
FYI, our local Sherwood distributor ( in Massachusets), gets $25 bucks to
change the battery in these (and yes, they'll do Oceanics at the same
price).
