i bought a commander about six months a go . i decided to put a fresh battery
in the computer, it took about three hours before i was able to put the fresh
battery
in my computer. this coputer took a major dump. the computer would not work.
i tried the old battery with the same results. the coputer work fine before the
battery change. the battery was placed in the computer with the proper
polarity.
the computer will not work at all.

is this a common problem with this computer or did i get a LEMON...
THANKS FOR ANY ADVICE
DAVID

Two schools of thought seem to be prevalent on this NG with regard to
Cochran computers. 1 - they are the best thing since sliced bread or 2. -
they suck big time!!

I just ordered a Nitrox Commander. Before this I had the Nemesis I. The
Nemesis I had some bad luck, I went through 3 of them in less than 3 months.
Yes, I know lots of people who had the same problem. I haven't heard of
anyone getting a bad Commander, and nothing but praise from the owners.
Unfortunately, people seem to remember the bad, not the good.

My second computer is an Orca Phoenix. Probably no one remembers but Orca
had a bad rep for awhile. My experience with them has been just the
opposite.

It's not good when someone puts out a product that isn't reliable, but if
they correct the problem and learn from their mistakes than that's a plus.
I'm not defending Cochran but I'm willing to see if they learned from their
experiences. I don't think they would have been in business this long if
they put out a shoddy product.

Time will tell, and I'll let you know how my new Commander performs.

My advice is: Did you call Cochran? Your post didn't mention this. If
you did, what response did you receive? My experience with Cochran was
that they were quite helpfull (I use os/2 instead of the (believe it or
not) DOS their PC interface is designed to work with.

You are now the proud owner of a true cochran computer.

Hi Gary,
My stupid husband bought a Cochran Commander and he is not even a blonde! Can
I send him back to Cochran with the computer? Should I sue Cochran for making
me dive with him and his computer? Will it look obvious if they find him in a
cave with all of his gear missing but he is still wearing his Cochran computer
(since we know I can not resale it)? Should the Cochran computer be the only
thing that I let him have in the divorce?
We and other Cochran-owner spouses need to know.
Jennifer

PS For those who think I am serious, you don't know me.
My husband loves his Commander more than me.

Because the good can't outweigh a dead computer :-(

I also own a Commander. Besides problems with PC-link(software) and
battery consumption my main problem is temperature. If it rises above
~36蚓 /100蚌 (?) the algorithm goes weird and tells me I'm 70m deep
(at the surface). So I have to be careful in the summer :-(

Geez, all I hear are problems. How bad is battery consumption? My Phoenix
will eat a 9v in about 1 week of diving. It will also go bonkers if I leave
it out in the hot sun.
