Well, I've had my 960 XLP for several months now and its been down on more
than a dozen dives with no problems at all. I've had no problems with breathing
resistance at depth, although I do dive with the resistance control set to
minimum resistance (gotta have that air!). I've had it free-flow a little
when swimming headlong into the very great outflow of a few of the springs
down here, but you turn your head a little (play some games with hydrodynamics)
and the flow stops.
All in all, I've been quite pleased with the regulator.

XLP is Dacor's top-of-the-line sport diver regulator. It has the breathing
adjustment knob, which some divers (like me) like a lot.
There are three XLP/960 (960 is the first stage) in my immediate close
circle of diving buddies, and we're all quite happy with them. I
paid $279 for mine from Central Scuba in NY, so I'd take that as a base
price to work up from at a local shop. You could probably go to
Wet Pleasure and get the same deal.
Depending on what brand of stuff you want to plug into it, you may need
an adapter plug; the Dacor first stage has oversized LP ports. The
adapter is $4 or so.
One thing I like about it is that the second stage tears down quite easily.
As an occasional beach diver, it's nice to be able to take it apart
without tools to get the sand out.
Also: unlike the other divers who have reported, none of the 4 have had
any failures, in a total of about 300 dives. Can't say the same about
the Dacor AERO octopus (started to leak) and Sherwood gear we also dive
with sometimes.
