My dive shop sells nothing but TUSA. Recently I went to another that sold
a varity of brands and asked thier opintion of TUSA. They said that TUSA
was not any good and to stay away from it if possible.

What are your opinions on TUSA brand products? I'm a brand new diver just
buying my equipment. Any help would be greatly apprecated.

Thanx

Whatca trying to do? Start another religous war?

Dive shops tend to do this....run down the brand(s) they don't carry.
They want to sell you the products they have.

TUSA has some good items in their line...as does US Divers as do just
about every other manufacturer. You'd be better off asking about
specific items.

I have TUSA Imprex fins. I like them. They are tough, durable and
give pretty good power.

1. Stay away from shops that "sell nothing but".
2. TUSA is spanish for junk.

I think the masks are excellent, and speaking as the
pickiest-about-fins diver in the entire world, who will do just about
anything to avoid switching out of my itty-bitty black rubber
full-foots, I LOVE their fins! But I like a softer fin...

idiots, all. TUSA works just fine. Have used it along with the "best"
scubapro products. don't get caught up with the equipment junkies.

I have a Tusa mask (3 window style). I have had it for about four years
and it has worked flawlessly. No leaks, no hardening of the skirt, no
tears in the skirt. The price is much better too. I payed around $60 for
my Tusa, when the local dive shop wanted $130 for a Dacor that looked
identical. Please note these are Canadian Dollars.

I have Tusa boots, and Liberator fins, and have no complaints about them either.

I have a Tusa 4 window mask TM-6000Q with diopers, alot of people I know
have Tusa masks or fins they are good but I don't know about the regs { I
use usd for now}. They are probably are good but, you might spend the same
amount on something like Sherwood which in my opinion is better.

Paul seems to have something against TUSA but doesn't tell us why.
TUSA is short for Tabata U.S.A. which is Japanese not Spanish.
Perhaps Paul can enlighten us as to why he feels so strongly against
TUSA. Is it safe to assume that Paul's shop doesn't sell TUSA?

No, no. I'm not trying to find out the "best" brand. I just want to be
able to support my local dive shop (that sells TUSA only) and wanted
outside opinions about them to reassure me.

Based on the response I would have to say that TUSA makes some pretty good
masks & fins and acceptable products on most everything else.

Manny,

I appologize. You quite adroitly demonstrated my ignorance. TUSA is
Japanese for junk. But it's your life support system. I'm not
affiliated with any shop.

I've been using a TUSA BC & SPG Console since the late '80's. I don't
feel as if they were a "BAD" choice (ie, I've gotten my money's worth
out of them), so I'd say that they were at least "acceptable".

Now I probably wouldn't buy the same exact models again, but its really
because products have improved, plus my needs have changed...not enough
yet to justify that this old stuff be immediately scrapped, but enough
that I'd probably end up with different configurations today.

For example, the old BC squeezes (unlike many new designs), plus its
not drysuit friendly, so I'd take care of these issues when buying a
new BC.

Similarly, for the Console, I REALLY like the compact size of mine.
_However_, it has failed a few more times than I like (2-3x?), so I
have some reliability concerns. **BUT** since TUSA has repaired it
every single time for FREE, despite it being YEARS out of warranty,
their good support has so far easily made up for this shortcoming.
I'm not really sure on if this is a "buy again" or not. Probably.

Overall, I would look at the TUSA's instead of writing them off due to
some "poor" brandname reputation, unless my local shop tells me that
their quality has obviously gone downhill since I bought mine (I don't
know if this is/could be the case or not), or they're noncompetitive.

The way I see it, over time, ALL manufacturers have the potential to
change in quality, so the key really isn't "what's their historical
reputation?", but rather, "what's their quality TODAY"?

Manny, you have to realize that everyone has their own opinion. Maybe
you don't like Paul's opinion, but it is HIS personal opinion. It is up
to you to decide which one you believe in or trust. You know that old
adage, let the buyer beware.

FWIW, I have TUSA fins and their dive computer (however, that is made by
Suunto...)

I have a TUSA BC purchased in about 1988. No problems at all until it
developed a rip in a seam. I returned it to the factory and they replaced
the whole shell (practically the whole garment) totally free. Still
working perfectly.

Personally, I wouldn't buy from a shop that only stocks one brand,
especially TUSA.

I wouldn't buy TUSA life support equiptment, but I've had their Liberator
mask
fins and snorkel for about five or six years. Other than replacing the
mask strap and purge valve in the snorkel (normal wear items), they've
worked fine. The fins are very powerful and stiff though.

If they said TUSA wasn't any good and didn't stock it - odds are they
wanted you to buy what they did stock. TUSA is great - I know Course
Directors who wouldn't dive in any other gear. It's primarily opinion...

I took TUSA's reg tech certification class and about 16 other
manufacturer's as well. The construction quality is at least as good as
most big name brands and their warranty policy is probably the best in the
business. I do not have a shop or work with one that sells TUSA, but a
dealer for several brands including ScubaPro and TUSA said that Tusa's top
reg was identical to the ScubaPro MK5 and Oceanic Alpha. I'd want to have
both on the table at the same time to confirm, but it is not all that
unlikely. Note the ScubaPro and TUSA alt inflators...

All the manufacturer's have some dud regs that slip out the door: you
should see the results of Navy Antarctic testing and the failure rates of
ScubaPro, Poseiden, Mares, etc. I would feel as comfortable diving a
TUSA as most other brands.

You're right! I've tried many masks, but guess which one I keep coming back to? TUSA! It's the only one that doesn't leak while on my face!
