When we were in Cozumel a couple years ago, we went to La Choza a few times -
for breakfast and dinner. But it was at breakfast that we had a delicious
sauce that came with the eggs. It was a yellowy sauce - not especially or
particularly spicy - it was almost as though it was mayo and yellow tomatoes.
Anyway, if anyone is in Coz now or going (and maybe if you speak spanish) see
if you can find out what that sauce is and post it here (call it La Choza
Sauce). I have tried searching Mexican and Yucatan recipe sites and books for
2 yrs now and can't find it. So now I'm trying this route. Thanks, anyone in
advance. And if you haven't had it, and you in Coz or going, make sure to try
it. It's GREAT with breakfast eggs. (Mind you, it might be a dipping sauce
for chips as well, I'm not sure. They brought it to the table with the chips
and our eggs.)

I'll be on island in a few weeks, if I brought back a bottle or ten, how
much is it worth to ya? :))))

They call it garlic sauce and they sell it. I've got a liter of it in my
pantry right now. $12 for a liter, $8 for a pint.
Say, Jer gdunn, I'm almost tempted to have you bring some back and I'll buy em
off you. I'm in NYC. At the same time, I wonder if I can order some from
LaChoza - I doubt it though; ordering and mailing is entirely different than
just picking up a bottle when you're there.
Thanks everyone for your answers. Why didn't I think of asking here earlier? :
) And thanks for posting the name - at least now if I looked in Yucatanian (is
that a word) cookbooks, I might better find it. Cheers!

I'll tell ya what I can do... since I'll be on island a while, I'll look
around for it and grab up a few bottles for the return trip. I'll come
back in here to letcha know what happens. Trust me, I have no intention
of setting up a La Choza Garlic Souce import business, nor am I
expecting a turnaround price as if I had. (unless I have to bribe INS,
then all bets are off) :))
I've considered it....
If it's the mustard sauce you mean, its just mayonnaise, mustard (the
bright yellow kind), ketchup, and bay leaf.

Sounds, disgusting. Not the same thing either. Their garlic sauce is oil
based (though it doesn't look it). None of any of the above (well might
have bay leaves) are in it.

Perhaps this is a different sauce. What I am describing is set out in a
bowl with chips to dip into it. It is a much more runny than a mayonnaise.
It is, however, really good so if you do get a bottle I doubt you'll regret
it.
I know it isn't what you are talking about, but these are two
favorites that I have found:
In the states, usually in Asian groceries, a ketchup looking red
sauce (in a clear plastic squirt bottle) called "Tuong ot Sriracha"
(it's got a cock rooster in white on the clear bottle). It's low end
medium hot, and the Garlic takes a minute to find you. My best bud is a
sushi chef and he turned me on to the stuff.
In Honduras (the next time you're in the Bay Islands), get some Don
Julio "Salsa de Ajo". (Garlic sauce) It's a medium brown color and is
excellent for cooking pork, chicken, manatee.
In that it's Halloween tonight, this all seems appropo.

I believe this is the sauce I've meant all along - yellowy, only slightly
thick, and really good. And it did come with chips though it was great with
the eggs. So if it is what's being sold - I'd love it. Maybe I'll find out. :
