How about the following, which is what my youngest son was singing as
LOUD as he could while in the toilet recently (a month ago):

"Little Rabbit Foo Foo, hopping through the forest
Scooping up the field mice and BOP 'EM on the haad.
Down came the goooooooodd fairies, and she said:
Little Rabbit Foo Foo, I don't like your ATTITUDE
Scooping up the field mice and BOP 'EM on the haad!
You have (number) more chances!

(as the song continues, the number of chances are diminished by one
until you get to "You have NO MORE CHANCES!" (and I guess at that
point, the song mercifully ends (either that, or we all have heard the
song so many times that we continue to hear it even when the song's
over!)

Bob..thanks for reminding me of "Little Cabin in the Woods". I used
that song once for a cheer during a campfire program! It was
great...even the little non-Scouts could participate..

Unfortunately, I also got a couple of phone calls from music and
homeroom teachers too....seems that that song, SUNG AS LOUDLY AS
POSSIBLE, was so much of a hit that they wanted to sing it at school
too.....

Thanks for the reminder!!

No, no, no!

Your kid doesn't have all of the thing. After, "You have X more
chances," the fairy says, "And if you don't change your ways, I'm
going to turn you into a GOON!" (rhymes with "tune")

But, Little Bunny Foo-Foo doesn't change his ways. The fairy comes
back, the chances are reduced by one, again the warning about being
turned into a goon, and the song continues.

The reason why is that when the Foo-Foo runs out of chances, the fairy
turns him into a goon, at which point the singer says:

"And the moral of this story? Hare today, goon tomorrow."

Surely there are others who know this version of the song....

*loud laughter* Thanks, Brian....I *knew* there was more to this song
than what Aaron kept singing...even with the "BOP 'EM"s.....hehehe

Are there any other "motion songs" that can be used at day or summer
camps?? Just don't tell us the words, tell us what melody it's sung
to or something....I would hate to sing some song this summer only to
have some 5 year old to come up to me and say "Mister, you got that
song WRONG. Here's how it's supposed to go..."

Having listened to my wife (Kindergarten teacher) teach this to each of our
3 children, she has a way to cleanly end it. I'm sure some of you have heard
this also.

|> Scooping up the field mice and BOP 'EM on the haad!
|> You have (number) more chances!

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Or I'll turn you into a goon.

At the end the good fairy turns Foo Foo into a goon by saying:

You have no more chances. POOF, you're a goon.

The you say:

The moral of the sory is:
Hare today, goon tomorrow.

Just a thought,

Jim

One favorite which all ages can get into is "My Bonnie Lies Over the
Ocean".

First have the entire group sing it just to be sure everyone
knows it (most do). Then have all rise to their feet, explaining that
everytime a word that starts with a "B" is sung you must squat down
if standing, or stand up if squatting. Then sing the song and enjoy
the commotion!

Variations include having every-other person start standing, or split
into groups with some standing and others squatting (or sitting).
As the song progresses there is a "wave" effect, just like the ocean.
Great to use at the start of a campfire.

well, we also had a "modern" version of Little Cabin in the Woods...

In the background, have several staffers lined up for snapping and
other silly motions....

staff singing and snapping:
bum-bum-bum-bum-ba-dum-bum
bum-bum-bum-bum-ba-dum-bum
bum-bum-bum-bum-ba-dum-bum
Little pad in the forest green (sketch box in air using both hands)
ba-da-da-dum (snapping)m
Little Herbie made the window scene (hand to forehead..looking out
window)
ba-da-da-dum (snapping)
Saw a Hare come boppin by (hands in front of body hop like a bunny)
A knockin' at his door!
bum-bum-bum-bum-ba-dum-bum
bum-bum-bum-bum-ba-dum-bum
bum-bum-bum-bum-ba-dum-bum
Like this Like this said he (throw hands up, jump slightly backwards)
ba-da-da-dum
There's a hunter rat-a-tat-n at me (hands like aiming down a gun
barrel, make a sweep in front)
ba-da-da-dum
Little Hare come bop inside (come in gestures with arm)
Safely to abide (hands in a cradle motion...)
bum-bum-bum-bum-ba-dum-bum
bum-bum-bum-bum-ba-dum-bum
bum-bum-bum-bum-ba-dum-bum
(repeat until fade...can have the singers walk slowly offstage
slowly fading....)
Now, during the snapping sections, be creative, expand them/shrink them
to whatever works for you. We'd have the lead singer up front and the rest
in the background, all in dark sunglasses, at each ba-da-da-dum we'd snap only
once, going from one direction to another, kinda in a sweeping motion with
the snapping hand in front...(does that make sense? I'm not sure how to
describe it....?)

Anyway, this is fron Resica Falls Scout Reservation in eastern Pennsylvania..
I've never heard it anywhere else and I don't know where it originated,
whether someplace different or from one of the bored staff one year in the
mists of the distant past.....:->)
enjoy...:->)

Here's a slight variation on the herman version of the
little cabin in the woods song

Crazy Herman - Another Version
This is sung with a fast rhythm like (almost run together)
da da da, da da da, da da
-----------------------------------------
In a pad in the forest green,
crazy herman was surveying the scene,
saw a hare-man trucking by,
rapping at his door.

Like Help, Like Help,
Came the Plea,
'fore the hunter exterminates me,

Hey Hare Man, Dont Jump and Shout.
come on in and we'll all hangout!

------------------------------------------
And then there was other versions of little cabin

Mega-Cabin in the woods
-----------------------

Mega-Cabin in the woods, (out line huge rectangle)
Mega-Man by the window Stood, (Stand on toes with arm up looking around)
Saw a rabbit hopping by (put hands up with elbows on ears and hop)
_Pounding_ at his door. (huge knocking motion)

...
'fore the hunter bazookas me dead (hold bazooka on shoulder)
...
safely to abide (cradle rabbit with arms out stretched.)

Micro-Cabin in the woods
------------------------

Micro-Cabin in the woods (tiny rectangle)
Micro-man ... (pointer finger up)
saw a rabbit ... (pointer finger goes up and down (hopping))
tapping at the door (pointer finger knocks)

...
'fore the hunter BB's me dead (little bb gun motion)
...
safely to abide (tiny cradle)

My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean motions

My point to self with thumb
Bonnie hand motion appropriate ( in this day and age) to
indicate main squeeze
lies -head on hands like sleeping
over -motion like going over a wall
the ocean -waves with hands
the sea -make C with one hand
Oh! -O with hand
bring -pull towards self (like pulling on rope)
back -reach over shoulder and touch back
to - two fingers
me -same as my

Everyone stands. Every word is put into motion. Do it a couple
of times, then speed it up! Its a riot!

When I staffed a summer camp here...one of my favorite action songs(well, it
was my favorite before when I was a camper there...*sigh*) was "Jaws".
Lessee if I can remember all of it...
It doesn't really have a tune...it is a follow-me chant that is encouraged
to be shouted until hoarse...here goes:

There was Jaws!! du du du du(synchopate the "du"'s)-the action for all of
I said there's Jaws!! du du du du - "Jaws" lines is a motion with
(repeat until the crows gets into it) - your arms, opening and closing
- them as if they were a sharks
- jaws, fingers out stretched to
- simulate teeth
There was grampa Jaws du du du du - Jaws action as above, but use fist
- instead of stretched fingers(no teeth)
- say line with lips pulled over teeth
There was mama Jaws du du du du - Jaws action with fingers straight out
There was baby Jaws du du du du - sqeuaky voice, Jaws action with only
- your hand(small Jaws)
and THERE WAS JAWS du du du du - Jaws action

There was a lady du du du du - no action
A pretty lady du du du du - one hand on hip one on hair and wiggle
But There was Jaws!! du du du du - Jaws action as above
She went a swimmin du du du du - air swim with arms
There was JAWS du du du du - you know
There WAS JAWS du du du du - you guessed it

There was a man du du du du - no action
A REAL man du du du du - flex arms, multiple poses
But there was JAWS du du du du - "Jaws" thingy
He said "I'll save ya" du du du du - point heroically
But there was Jaws du du du du - guess what
THERE WAS JAWS du du du du - start getting more animated with the
- "Jaws" thing
THERE WAS JAWS DU DU DU DU - keep going
(repeat and build to climax)

You know what's next du du du du - no action
Jaws Two!!!!!!

Hope you like it,
John
