Our pack will be marching in a parade next weekend. Does anyone have
some cadences suitable for Cub Scouts? The ones I learned in Navy boot
camp aren't exactly appropriate! I can adapt a couple I found on the
net, but probably someone more creative than I has already done it.

Nah, that's no good.

Well, I guess the ones I learned in the Army are no help, either.

My suggestion is probably going to draw flames, but here goes....

Don't attempt to make this experience a "military drill" for the boys. If
you can get them to stay in line, not pick up candy thrown by the unit in
front of you, stay in the middle of the road and not carry on a bunch of
conversations, consider yourself lucky. Because these boys are young, and
are Scouts, the folks watching will give them applause and encouragement.

BTW, do you have any Cub Mobiles or Covered Wagons? Bring one or two to
the parade. The kids will enjoy it and you will be advertising for your
program.

Have fun.

Hi All,
This is a cadence I made up a number of years ago when I was CM. You are
welcome to cange it as you see fit. The only thing that I ask is that you
email me a copy of you new cadence so that I can see what others have
done.
It is sung to the standard military cadence.

Our troop has several cadences that the scouts enjoy, including some that
are original. Here's one that Cubs would probably enjoy too. Note that
each line is sung out once by the cadence leader, then repeated once by
the whole group.

A flea
A fly
A flea, a fly, a mos-keet-toe
Calamine
Calamine, calamine, calamine lotion
Oh, no more calamine lotion
Itchy itchy scratchy scratchy up and down my backy wacky
Itchy itchy scratchy scratchy up and down my BACK!
