Just returned from a holiday in North Carolina where my wife and I managed
to run 3 out of the State’s 4 parkruns.

For those in the US not familiar with the parkrun events, see
https://www.parkrun.us and
https://www.parkrun.us/events/#geo=2.92/38.9/-96.41 to see where they are.

Very friendly fun events that are all free. No prizes but results are
recorded wherever you run and once you’ve registered you can take part
anywhere in the world where there is a parkrun event.

We’ve run events in the UK (our home), France, New Zealand and now the US.

As well as your time you get your over-all position, your gender position,
your 5 year age-group position and your age graded percentage. Having all
these stats keeps it interesting no matter what your age.

As parkrun is relatively new in the US I was lucky enough to nab the 65-69
age group record in two of the three events that we did. Utterly slayed by
a 75-79 year old in Durham though who ran 22:49 to my 23:24. ;-)

The 65-69 record in Durham is 20:32, well out of my reach at the moment.

Anyhow, if you’ve not done one before, check them out.

Tim
