Hey there. I've been running 1500m 3 or 4 times a week for the past few
months in preperation for the run my school is having at the end of the
month. I'm interested in knowing a good time for the run to compare my
best time to. Today, I finished in 6:37.

Just to add, I'm only 14, I'd like times for people around my age.

Thanks for any help you can give me, please e-mail any responses :)

In my personal experience, 4:30-4:40 is an OK time for a good 1500m runner
of 14 years of age.

Some people like to run them in the afternoon, others prefer the morning.
It's really a matter of taste. :-/

Hi! I'm 15 (freshman) and I've been running the 1600m in track this year
for the first time. It's not exactly the same distance, so I'm not
really sure what a good time for the 1500 is, I've never run it. My best
time so far for the 1600 though is 6:10. It's not like a really amazing
time or anything, but it's respectable. I think the school record is
5:30 or something like that. I hope that's helpful...good luck!

You didn't specify - are you a boy or a girl?

Also, "good" is relative - for the amount of training you have been doing,
6:37 might be okay, but if you were doing serious training (say, 20-40
miles a week, or 30-60km per week), then something something around
4:30-5:00 would be okay for boys, and 5:00-6:00 would be pretty good for
girls.

Of course, if you want to know what is VERY good, the American national
high school records are something like 3:39 for boys (run by the great Jim
Ryun back in the 1960s) and 4:16 for girls.

The boys record is 3:55 by Jim Ryun, and the girls is 4:34 (I'm pretty
sure about that), by Patti Sue Plummer.

IMO, if you were running 6:30s now, then by the end of the month if you
could shave 30 sec off and run sub-6min, that would be a solid
achievment. If you are thing about your future running career, one quote
that stuck in my head from my days of high school track was that "anyone
with enough training can run a 4:40 mile"

No, those are the mile records. The 3:39 and 4:16 are what you get if you
convert the times to 1500.

ASSUMING you are not a troll.

IF you are doing that on a certified course/track,
AND really finishing in that time,
then for find a manager!
