Hi folks,
Looking for socks that minimize blisters, shirts and leggings which
minimize chafing. Any difference between Coolmax, Drymax, and
anything else I'll see when I look?

I've never had problems with blisters on my toes, but leading up
to a trail ultra which was to be run through some water crossings I
bought some "injinji" socks - coolmax with individual toes to avoid
rubbing - they felt good and I had no problems.

To avoid chafing I've used 3M tape on nipples, and vaseline
(and/or bodyglide) on other parts of the body...

Smartwool for socks. For tops and tights I tend to wear tech stuff on
sale. (but outer layers tend to be 3sp or swift; base may be powerdry or
an assortment of other stuff, depending on temps)

You might want to give some idea as to whether you're headed into winter
or summer so whether you're looking for hot or cold weather stuff.

Not much in my book.

I think generally construction (durability) and fit and functionality
(zippers, weight, whatever other features) are way more important than
the 71% vs. 73% wicking of brand A vs. B. This stuff basically all
wicks and breathes and so forth. Beyond that you want it not to fall
apart in two months or scratch the hell our of your nipples with its
rough texture or poor fit.

You probably will find sock preferences (mine are Wigwam Ultimax or
whatever they're calling it these days, and SmartWool) if you try
multiple brands - there's significant differences in thickness, single
vs. double layer, etc. But that seems a fairly individual thing: each
variety has its fans, even the thick Thorlos and the double layer
Wrights, neither of which I like at all.

I've been wearing these for awhile now, mostly for the hobbit look. The one
issue to watch out for with them is that they do take up more room in the
toebox, which can be a problem if your feet swell in a long event, with the
socks *causing* blisters between the toes.

It's also interesting you mention water crossings, as today I heard mention
of this stuff, specifically marketed towards preventing wet feet and the
associated blisters. Wish I'd had this for the solstice run crossings,
bodyglide does a poor job on the feet, probably getting wiped away by the
sock:

It's not socks or leggings that cause the problems.

It's the jogging.

Hi Josh,

My name is Bob with Drymax Sports and I just stumbled across your
question. Drymax is completely different than Coolmax polyester. We
have an interwoven dual layer system with our proprietary super
hydrophobic (water hating) Drymax layer against the skin that
mechanically lifts and removes moisture from the skin to the outer
Hydrophilic (water loving) wicking polyester outer layer similar to
Coolmax. Coolmax uses the in ineffectively slow process of wicking to
spread moisture to a greater area through capillary action. Coolmax
is just positively charged polyester that has a different cross
section giving it more surface area.. Drymax is a neutrally charged
fiber that moisture is instantly repelled from which allows the Drymax
terry loops to act like little squeegees lifting the moisture to the
outer layer where it is away from the foot while the wicking layer
dries.

Make no mistake this is not two socks in one, we have created a system
that plates the Drymax to the inside and wicking polyester away from
the foot.

Wool is overhyped outdated technology and we guarantee we can
outperform and outlast it in every category.

The proof is our performance record. Ultrarunners such as Jamie
Donaldson and Lisa Bliss had chronic blister issues until switching to
Drymax. Since wearing Drymax neither runner has had a single
blister. As a matter of fact, Jamie has dominated such races as the
Umstead 100, Badwater 135 and most recently Javelina Jundred in very
punishing conditions with zero problems. Runners like Jenn Shelton,
Erik Skaggs, Tim Englund, Tony Mangan, Dan Rose, Theresa Daus-Weber,
Luis Escobar, Kelly Ridgway, Charlie Engle and many others have made
the transition to Drymax. You can view our athlete's exploits on our
news/blog at www.drymaxsports.blogspot.com .

Please take a moment to take a look at our website www.drymaxsports.com
for more information about how our superior technology keeps feet up
to 25 times drier than other wicking socks. We have a money back
satisfaction guarantee.

Online retailers like ZombieRunner.com, RunningWarehouse.com,
Zappos.com amongst others carry our socks. I would contact either Don
or Gillian at ZombieRunner and ask their opinion on the driest socks
and their honest review of Drymax. I feel confident that we will
receive a rave endorsement.

If you have any other questions I would be happy to answer them. I
feel very confident that Drymax can offer your feet the driest
experience possible for your feet, it is in the science of our socks.
