Anyone know of a accident at Busch Gardens in Virginian around may of
1985. I was there for a class trip and someone either jumped or fell
out of the Sky ride and landed in the River by the Loch Ness
Monster...anyone remember or know about this accident??

I remember this incident and I knew who the girl was. Her last name
was Carranza. I believe her first name was Mary Anne or Mary
"something" and she was either a high/middle school student from
Virginia Beach. She didn't fall out either. She *jumped out* of the
skyride heading from (what is now) Land of the Dragons back to Banbury
Cross and hit the Rhine river. Her entire body was bruised from the
fall. She was lucky to survive. It was never disclosed publicly why
she jumped out but I have it on good authority that her and her
friends were on the skyride and high on some sort of illicit substance.

Interesting....... a girl I knew and one of my teachers were sitting
on a bench by the water where she hit the water...they were pretty
freaked out by what happened...... thanks for the info....

It seems like the whole incident was kept out of the newspaper.

It was all over the local news when it happened. I'm sure you can find
it archived at the VA Pilot or Daily Press.

I remember that.............I was there that day, riding Nessie. The
girl was on the gurney, and conscious, and I was wondering how she
survived it........the water is only a couple or three feet deep. She
seemed fine......I was amazed. (I didn't see the "fall"
itself........they just passed by the entrance to Nessie with the
gurney).

I was told that the door lock on the gondola had not been rotated
(locked) fully, and she was leaning out (against the door) to shout
down to some friends...............?

Very weird that I thought about this today and found recent messages
on this. I had a hard time finding anything on the internet about
this except for people's personal experiences with this story. I was
12 when this happened and lived near the park. Even then my family
knew that the "door" story was suspicious. Still to this day I can't
get on that skyride and not think of this incident. I still don't
know how she only suffered bruises.

Yeah, true story. It was Mary Anne Carranza. She went to Green Run High School. I went there as well and as I remember it they said she was on LSD, decided she could fly, and jumped. However, the leaning out seems more plausible. She did live. She was very lucky not to have been over the ground.
