Anyone know how Rock 'n Roller Coaster will compare to the Incredible
Hulk Coaster? I know they will be different type of Coasters, one mostly
indoor(RRC),one mostly outdoor(IHC).
*BUT* they will both open around Summer '99. It will be Disney's latest
vs Universal's latest.

Who will win the battle of the Coasters!!

Since Disney has the advantage of possibly tweaking their plans after
seeing the IOA coasters under construction, I'm going to go out on a
limb and say RNRC beats Hulk.

Here's HOPING that Disney has finally noticed the wolf at its door.

Of course, this is crazy speculation, and it's way past my bedtime...

Considering the lead time which coaster manufactures require, Rock 'n' Roller
Coaster was set prior to steel going up for the Hulk coaster. Other than both
coasters are steel, they don't share anything.

Which is better? We'll answer that question in 1999.

BTW: think about it. Counting RnRC, Hulk, Dragons and the flyers (the kiddie
suspended at IOA), Orlando opens FIVE coasters in 1999.

I do not at all agree. Mike Boodley is the number one coaster designer today,
in my opinion. Just wish I could be there this weekend and hear and experience
the dinn that will outdo the famous B&M roar. (B&M makes great coasters, they
just haven't used the material of choice available in abundance in this
country...WOOD WOOD WOOD!)

Hahahaha!!! If Hulk rides anywhere near as good as it sounds, i don't think
anything could beat it.

To my knowlege, Disney has never designed a roller-coaster before, and I
don't think that they will be designing the next one either. Disney usually
builds themed show rides, such as the "Great Movie Ride" and the safari in
the Animal Kingdom. When Disney does build a thrill ride, they usually
design a completely new system to deliver the thrills. Disney does not
design coasters, designing a coaster would require a different set of
expertise. It would be like the person who designs race cars designing a
race track. Therefore, I doubt that Disney will design the physical (coaster
part) of this ride, although I have no doubt they will do the themeing.

It doesn't matter how big of a bank account Disney has, you can't
throw money at everything. Designing roller-coasters is an art, it would be
like paying some guy on the street a million dollars to paint a better
portrait than the Mona Lisa. Some people are good at designing coasters,
others arn't, and it just so happens that B&M are the best steel coasters
designers on the planet. (In my opinion of course) No amount of money will
change that.

Brad

There may be some debate as to where I get off saying that B&M is the
best steel coaster designer on the planet. I drew this from the numerous
posts I read where people consitantly ranked B&M sit downs and inverteds
above sit downs and inverteds coming from either Arrow (yes, I know, they
don't make inverteds) or Vekoma. I also didn't count Intemin because I did
not have enough information to compare them to B&M. I also did not count out
of business designers.

I doubt RNRC will hold a candle to Hulk, thrill wise. Disney coasters
never go ver fast (including DM in Paris I believe. Disney has yet to
theme a coaster real well. BTMR is neat, but is really just an
updated Scenic Railway. Hopefully Universal is going to bring coaster
themeing to new levels. I mean come on, the Indy Jones roller coaster
in Paris had ENORMOUS potential. Could you imagine riding through the
mine shafts ala Indy in the Temple of Doom!!!!!! I would be booking
my flight to France if it was like that. Disney really missed the
boat on that. They should be building a real IJ roller coaster at MGM
instead of this lame-ass idea Rockin Roller Coaster.

Hey, maybe they bought it from Opryland?????????

Having seen it, it's definitely Vekoma track. They went with Vekoma for DLP
Space Mtn and got a wonderful product. Why wouldn't they want to continue
that? Particularly since Vekoma did their Roller Skater...

I think Vekoma should do more rides like SM in DLP. It appears to be smooth
and have a working launch.

RNRC is reported to kick in on the thrills department. The whole
original plan was scratched and a completely new coaster was designed.
(pressure from IOA) The reports say that this coaster is really going
to deliver. This is a dawn of a new Disney coaster and it is not fair
to compare this to any of their coasters built 20 years ago. And yes
Disney does theme coasters quite incredible......now add that with the
new thrills that are promised.....and I think we are going to have one
hell of a coaster.

hmmm... I wouldn't say smooth - I thought it was pretty rough in the front,
but, it has *loads* of padding so even though you feel your head being
buffeted about, it dosn't hurt.

Just my opinion.

Which leads me to ask...just what is it that Vekoma did for Disney
that they're not doing for their own coasters at the other parks?
And why?

They put a lot of padding on it - It's still rough, you just don't feeel it

Hulk has seven inversions, RnRC has three. Hulk's max height is 110', RnRC's
building is just under 100' tall. I don't believe that either really have a
large drop, but I'm not entirely sure on RnRC's layout after the first two
inversions.

Compare:
SFOG: Cyclone
Disneyland-Paris: SM
Disney: Any BigThunder or CaseyJr
Efteling: Python
Bellewaerde: Boomerang

These rides are all very smooth.
Problem of Vekoma is that after some years the tracks run rough.
Most B&M aren't old enough to have this problem.

When you don't feel its rough, it isn't rough.

I believe the fastest speed on Hulk comes after the opening cobra role.
I believe it is either 54 or 56 mph, not far off from RnRC's 60.

The top speed for the hulk will be at the bottom of the Dive Roll.
The train is accelerated to 40 mph then immediately inverts 110ft in the
air.
Dropping 110 some odd feet to the ground the Hulk builds up to its maximum
velocity.
So the velocity at the ground will not be simple to calculate since the
train is already doing 40 from the launch.

There seems to be some confusion here. Rock 'n Roller Coaster is not
going to be a copy of Space Mountain at Disneyland Paris. At first that
was the plan, but after some pressure the entire ride....(track and all)
was redesigned. Actually the exact number of inversions have not been
released, but I have been hearing 6 or more. I think the beginning of
RnRC sounds AWESOME!! A LIM blast up the hollywood hill, into an
inversion which inverts through the O in the hollywood sign then into
the building. Sounds cool to me. So I think the RnRC will be a good
matchup for the Hulk.

Actually...I think you might be a little confused as well. As far as I know,
the idea of being launched through the HOLLYWOOD sign outside the building has
been scrapped. However, I have also heard that the sign might be *inside* the
building.

Disney never said that the music would be 1950s style. It likely would be
classic hard rock. The Space Mountain sound system at Disneyland Paris is
great. Standing 100 feet away from the station, I could hear clearly the sound
coming out of the train speakers. I'm looking forward to a hard rock
experience while riding in the dark thru inversions after being launched at 60
mph.
