A woman was thrown out of the Perilous Plunge ride at Knott's Berry farm
yesterday and brutlally killed as she smashed onto the concrete right in
front of spectators. She was at the park on a group trip with Target
employees. The ride might be up for auction now, as this is the 3rd
incident it had since it opened. (lift chain snapped twice)

The lift snapping is not that big of a thing. That is actually somewhat
common on rides. It's not a good think but the lift cables/chains do wear
out over time.

What is your source of the above information?

He read it on the internet, it's got to be true.

(rumor season is just weeks away, when parks close and there is
nothing else to chat about)

You have to admit, the chain snapping is REALLY relevant here! Anyhow,
he probably heard it on the internet. Keep your eyes peeled on Ebay...

I searched that site for all articles on Knott's Berry Farm and I found
two. In neither of the two articles was there any mention of Perilous
Plunge possibly being put up for auction. There also was no mention of
the lift chain breaking before.

Here is the first article I found on the Contra Costa Times website:

Woman dies after riding Knott's Berry Farm attraction

ASSOCIATED PRESS

BUENA PARK -- A woman who died after riding the "Perilous Plunge" at
Knott's Berry Farm fell out of the attraction and suffered extensive
injuries, even though her seat belt and lap bar were secured, officials
said.

Lori Mason-Larez, 40, of Duarte, fell Friday night an unknown height
from the ride known as the "Perilous Plunge," a combination roller
coaster and water slide that features a 115-foot drop into a
650,000-gallon pool, said Susan Tierney, a park spokeswoman.

Mason-Larez's seat belt and lap bar "were in their correct and locked
position," Tierney said. The ride remained closed Saturday.

Mason-Larez died of extensive traumatic injuries sustained on the
attraction, said Bruce Lyle, supervising deputy of the Orange County
coroner's office. He said he could provide no further details about what
caused the injuries.

All remaining riders on the attraction exited without incident after the
fall. Mason-Larez was treated at the scene by paramedics before being
taken to West Anaheim Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead,
Tierney said.

The attraction was shut down, and state and park officials were
investigating the fall Saturday, Tierney said.

The death was the second this month involving a visitor to Knott's Berry
Farm, and the fourth involving a California amusement park this summer.
Before this month, the last time Knott's Park Farm guest died was 1983,
although an employee died in 1996, Tierney said. Al Tafazoli, manager of
the Southern California Amusement Ride Office of the state Department of
Occupational Health and Safety, did not immediately return a call
seeking comment Saturday.

Earlier this month, Justine Dedele Bolia, 20, died of a brain aneurysm
at Western Medical Center in Santa Ana. She lost consciousness on
Knott's Montezooma's Revenge roller coaster.

State officials have said there is no evidence linking that ride --
which has since reopened -- to Bolia's death. Lyle said final autopsy
results are pending.

Here is the second article I found on that site:

later died.

Mason-Larez was injured about 10:20 p.m. Friday on the ride, a

All remaining riders on the attraction exited without incident.

Mason-Larez was treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to
West Anaheim Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead, Tierney
said.

The attraction was shut down pending a state investigation. Park
officials also planned to conduct their own probe.

Tierney declined further comment, citing the ongoing investigations.

I remember that the lift broke once during testing, and I believe it has
done once again since opening. However I have heard nothing about it going
up for auction.

No...just when I see wild, unsupported claims made here it is nice to
see them supported with at least a little bit of facts. I guesss it
looks differently from another viewpoint.

I forgot to add that I guess that's asking too much. Oh well.

Not to mention when the claims are being made against Knotts, the best
friend (other than Legoland) enthusiasts have in Southern California.
It certainly explains why I'm always ready to jump to their defense.
