This is a few days old but I haven't seen it mentioned here yet. It was
in The Dayton Daily News Sunday, May 25.

Mike - Dayton, Ohio

Associated Press
Aurora - A girl who was riding a double loop roller coaster at Geauga
Lake Amusement Park died Friday, apparently after suffering an asthma
attack.
The 14-year-old girl began having trouble breathing and collapsed
after the ride ended, said park spokewoman Rebecca Murphy.
She was taken to Columbia Solon St. Luke's Medical Center, where
she was pronounced dead at 1:43 p.m., said hospital spokeswoman Gina
Goodwin. The girl's name was not released at the request of the family,
she said.
The girl's attack was not related to the operation of the ride,
Ms. Murphy said. The ride closed for about an hour and was up and
running again Saturday, she said.
The girl was part of a class from Edgewood Middle School in Wooster.
The cause of death has not been determined. A message seeking
comment from the Geauga County coroner's office was not returned
Saturday.

This is truly sad, if true, I have seen nothing about this other than
this. But that is not to say its not true. However I am very glad that
they made a point to say it was no fault of the coaster or the operation
of it. It just happened, just like that could happen in a car on the way
to the park.

Actually this was in the Columbus Dispatch also. I read about it the
other day and was going to post something about it but I forgot about
it. In the paper, it was a very small article. I think it said it was on
the Double Loop.
I alway heard that 13 was a unluck number. Mabey it is 14.
I think a 14 year old girl died on Timber Wolf.
------ A 14 year old girl died on Kumba a couple of years ago. (I think
it was 14)
------- A 14 year old girl died on Wildcat at Cedar Point (heart
problem, same as Kumba)
----- Was'nt it a 14 year old boy who died on the Wildcat at Bells?
---- Now this latest one at Geauga Lake.
Pretty scary!!!

I guess I missed my chance. I am 25. I don't think she died on the ride
though. Be carefull because you just never know when your time
is.......... (just joking!!)

As long as it was quick and relatively painless, I'm inclined to
agree. If I'm ever on Death Row, I'll choose "Death by Alpengeist
without restraints!"

Than again, don't rush things! At 14, you have many great coaster
rides ahead of you!

I dont know where the original posting came from (I've been off for a
couple weeks), but CoasterDan replied to the following:

Here is CoasterDan's reply:

I can verify this...I was there (at the park, not on the ride) when it
happened. It was indeed on/near the Double Loop. My nephew and I were
walking from the Big Dipper to the Double Loop, when one of those first aid
carts beeped us out of the way. We got in line for the DL just as it shut
down, and we heard second hand reports that the reason it had shut down was
that a girl had passed out (some may have said "while on the ride," but I
cannot verify the accuracy of this). Then they started clearing the area
around the DL entrance, and the park security and law enforcement type
people started pushing us all back to make way for the ambulance that was
making its way through the park toward the ride. They were using the old
line "Please move away, there is nothing to see here," which naturally made
everyone MORE curious. Then a person was hauled down from the DL station
to the ambulance, and it looked like they were giving him/her CPR. After a
short time, the ambulance left the park. The Double Loop opened back up
later that day.

I'm sorry to hear that the person died. The park seemed to be on top of
the situation, although we found the comments of "nothing to see here" and
a few other actions (WRT to crowd control) to be counter-productive, if not
a little overboard.

Oh, also later that day, a cement truck didn't quite make it when it tried
to squeeze under the Big Dipper.

How about standing in the snow trench and getting hit by the train coming
right out of the corkscrew.... :)

No, no, no!

I'd have to be RIDING it!

Then, hopefully, I'd get thrown out in one of the loops and die VERY
quickly after tumbling through the air for a few seconds!

(For those who might be concerned: I do NOT have a death wish. It's
just a joke!)

Besides, David, it probably wouldn't work. Remember what element B&M
routinely leave out of their coasters...

Hmmm...If you were sent out on Alpengeist without restraint for the
purpose of execution, and you came back alive and kicking, would people be
hopping mad about it like they are when electrochoutions are botched? Or
would they just be upset that they've been putting up with the shoulder
bars unnecessarily since 1975... ;-)

(you knew I *had* to bring that up...)

Nope, I'd just have to keep riding till it worked! ;-)

Of course we did! It would be a dramatic way to prove a point,
though! Probably not worth the risk, even if it did result in the
elimination of the horse-collars!

Dave, is this 'demonstration' before or after the Orbiter without
restraints 'demonstration'.
