And why would you find this funny? BG
~ Bret ~
###########
Normally I wouldn't, but they had some Pokemon promotion going on where you
could get a rare character from a special machine set up at the park. and that
and Sun. were the only days. My son had his heart set on it. BG
I tried that at Great Adventure in 1999 after a rotten linejumping
incident in the Medusa line. I got a group of 6 or so very large,
very angry youts ("Did he just say 'youts'?!") removed from the Medusa
line after they pushed through many people, including a buncha smaller
kids who seemed very intimidated and skeered by said youts. The line
guard handled the situation very well, I thought. He got 'em all
before we reached the switchbacks, and sent 'em back.
I finally rode and noticed them waiting outside the exit ramp, glaring
at me. This, I decided, did not bode well, so I asked an ride op if I
could get a security guard escort out of the park. He couldn't work
around the twisted logical paradox that I had done nothing wrong, yet
I was the one who wanted to be escorted out of the park. I don't
blame him, really; it's probably not every day you find someone who
asks to be led out of the place by security. And the logic, while
sensible and good in my mind (all in the interests of
non-confrontational self-preservation) must've sounded very weird.
So the op brought the lead (or supervisor or whatever they're called
at Great Adventure) over to talk to me, which was the best thing to
do. The op could go back to working the ride, and the lead could deal
with the Guest In Peril. He asked me a few questions, along these
lines (paraphrased, of course, for the sake of the narrative:)
1. "Why do you wanna leave when it was those jerks who caused the
trouble?"
I said I had had my fun at the park for the day, and I wanted to go
home, but with a group of angry youts hanging around the exit waiting
for me, I'd prefer to go home with my teeth intact.
2. "Well, why not get them kicked out of the park instead?"
When I asked what it'd take for the youts to get forcibly ejected, the
lead said I'd need to fill out an Incident Report as well as find a
couple of witnesses who, I guess, would have to fill out Incident
Reports as well. Thing was, the ride had cycled now so many times I
wasn't sure if I could find enough witnesses still around who'd forego
riding to fill out a form to bust some punks who, for all they cared,
just cut in front of them and got kicked out of the line already. I
also didn't think that parading up and down the line going "MAY I HAVE
YOUR ATTENTION PLEASE, IF YOU WITNESSED AN UNFORTUNATE LINEJUMPING
EVENT 45 MINUTES AGO AND IT IS STILL FRESH IN YOUR MEMORY, WOULD YOU
PLEASE STEP OUT OF LINE AND COME WITH ME AND FILL OUT SOME FORMS OR
SOMETHING?" would yield any eager witnesses, either.
3. "So you really want to get escorted out of the park?"
If it means getting by those Angry Youts, then yes please. No fault
of you or your employees, I said, I just didn't want to have a
tete-a-tete with these younguns, each of whom had elbows bigger than
my head.
The lead nodded and radioed the nearest security guard. The guard
came up after a few minutes, and asked me the same questions the lead
had. He then scratched his head and said he'd need to radio his
supervisor, who arrived about 15 minutes later. All this time I
amused myself by watching the folding floors underneath Medusa. Boy,
those are damn fun to watch. If I had a Batcave and the bad guys were
chasing me, I'd run across the bridge to the secret hideout on the
other side, then flip a lever and TSSSSSSCHUNK the floors would fold
up and under, revealing the PIT OF HOT LAVA into which the bad guys,
in their reckless pursuit, would fall. I also imagined the Six Angry
Youts standing on the floor at the time and, in their panicked attempt
to get off the floor while it folded up, also falling into the pit of
hot lava. Yay!
My nervous chuckling must've unnerved the supervisor guard, because he
asked me the exact same 3 questions the other folks had asked me.
After explaining my case for the fourth time, the supervisor said ok,
he'd accompany me to the parking lot.
But by the time we got down to the bottom of the exit ramp, the youts
became Bored Youts and had decided to forget about that Evil Guy Who
Had Gotten Em Kicked Out Of Line. Maybe their short attention spans
demanded entertainment and gratification elsewhere, I dunno. They
were nowhere to be seen. I even checked behind the photo shack and
the goodie cart in front of Medusa's entrance. Gone like the
proverbial wind. So, during this most anti-climactic of all endings,
the guard wished me well, I thanked everybody involved -profusely- for
their time and concern, said they were super helpful and for that I
was grateful, and then we parted ways. I did not get to ask whether
or not B&M would build folding floors over pits of lava, nor did I ask
for any exit pass or free perk. Keeping my internal organs where they
were was perk enough for me. Later on that evening I met up with some
RRCers and we had a grand time at the park, and it was all good and
worked out very nicely in the end.
So to sum up:
Linejumpers: BAD, BAAAD
Six Flags Getting-Folks-Kicked-Out Policies: ODD
The Security & Medusa Crew: GOOD
Dan Quayle: STILL GAINING ACCEPTANCE
But it's always nice to know that if trouble does rear its ugly head
and you don't wish to play "OH NO YOU DI-INT" with a combatative group
of linejumpers, you can always request an escort out of the park. Who
knows? You may look all bad-ass while the guards take you out, guests
will whisper "Wonder what he did!" and speculate amongst themselves,
and if you're lucky, maybe you can actually get them to toss you onto
the pavement outside and snarl "And THAT'S for making Batman cry!"
while you pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and holler back "Well
maybe if he was smarter, he'd have included a cup in that stupid
Batsuit!"[0]
Or not.
[0] Alternate witty repartee: "And stay away from Foghorn Leghorn!"
"Well, we don't cotton to giant Southern roosters in THIS STATE,
pally!"[1]
[1] Alternate alternate thing you say on your own to the guards:
"Well, if you didn't want that you shouldn't have named the damn thing
GASM!"[2]
[2] Or not.

Wow, that's a scary story! That in a nutshell is why I avoid that park
like the plague during th eon season. Sure, people say it's not a bad
place but I just have a better time there when I have the whole park to
myself during the off season.
I have seen several similar such incidents at that park during my
lifetime of going there. :-(

That's cause most posters on here can sniff out a troll a mile away.
Starting an argument with him over it and stretching it to a 100-post
thread is exactly what he wants, IMO.
First of all my post in Spanish was not in reply to the original post
[which my newsreader did not download] but instead to someone else who
said: "All of southern California is getting to be one big ghetto.
You're either gonna learn to speak Spanish or move elsewhere soon."
I replied with: "No es verdad. Hay mucho en Los Angeles que hablan
Engles. Pero no es
importante que tu eres un grande hombre estupido!" While my Spanish
is a bit rusty here's the translation: "That's not true. There are
many in LA who speak English. But it is not important because you are
a big stupid man."
While I try to avoid responding trolls I couldn't help but post a
humorous response IN SPANISH to comeone who erroneously claims LA is a
Spanish-speaking city. It's call irony. Did I malign him? Yes, I
admit I'm guilty of calling him a "big stupid man." But I happen to
think his analogy of "ghetto = spanish speaking people" is A LOT
worse. Still two wrongs do not make a write and I apologize for my
error in judgement.

Let it be said, although I see things differently than a lot of you, I would
never and have never, made any decision in either my work or personal life that
has been based on soemones nationality.....I could care less, but unlike some
people, I discuss it with people, rather than pretend it doesnt exist......
clearly there are differences in the aura's of different neighborhoods. That
is part of what living in an Urban area is all about, different people,
different ways, living together, and there is no denying that some cultures
within the same economic disadvantages(supposed, and relative term) exist in
entirely different ways than others....It just seems to me that in my largely
oriental middle/lower class hood, I dont see half the trash, grafitti and
loitering curbside pharmacutacel providers that i do in holyoke and other large
hispanic areas.....
that isnt racism or bigotry by any means, just an observation, and i think many
people will agree with, wheter they post it here or not.
This has now gone admittadly off-topic, and in respect to rrc, email me
anything you want me to respond too....I am doen with this thread...

Ecuador is so cool... One song about Ecuador even plays in the
Riddler's Revenge station and was featured in the soundtrack of an R&S
coaster video. :-)
I spent a summer in Quito and loved it. While there, some of the places
I visited were Mitad del Mundo, Cotopaxi, Otavalo, Galápagos, Guayaquil,
Playas, Cuenca, and Cajas. We tried to find the Laguna de Quilotoa. We
came close, but never found it. Next time...
There were no permanent coasters to speak of, but the traveling carnival
called Playland Park did set up in Parque La Carolina. They had a
Chance Toboggan, but I didn't ride it. Here are two of my favorite

several terms for Ghetto.
Someone isn't necessaraly wrong when they term their computer Ghetto for being

Chuck,
Furthermore, i think its funny how if someone has a complaint about a park,
ride, or whatever, and it just happens to be an issue with a black being
disrespectful(common), or mexican mobs(gangs) harrassing them at a park,
then they are considered trolls. That is rediculous. So we should
pretend that it didnt happen? Ignore it? Pretend color doesnt matter?

You could not be more wrong.
I hate them slant eyed bastards. GOOKS!!!
Not funny at all.
That's obvious.
Many parks of the past closed due to declining attendance, related to an
environment Baldguy96 describes. In past years AstroWorld did hold the title of
"highest season passes sold" for any SF park, maybe it still does. This is because
parents in SFAW's surrounding neighborhoods can buy their children a bus pass and a
season pass for much less than the cost of day care during the summer months.
I am a Houstonian, and have bought a SF season pass for the last ten years or so,
but I buy via mail from SFOT, and have not visited SFAW since 1999. I hear
disturbing stories from friends and co-workers of what they've witnessed at SFAW.
(Was SFAW the first SF park to get metal detectors? Or was it SFGAdv?)
Unless Premier can unload SFAW I doubt it will close, as many of their employees
are just their "guests" in a SF uniform. So I guess they're all happy, and they
get few complaints.
I did hear a rumor a couple of years ago that the park would relocate to a small
community south of the city, as the land the park occupies was wanted for something
associated with the enormous football stadium being built next to the Astrodome.
But this sounds too costly.
Enough rambling. To summarize, history has shown that if parks choose to ignore
bad behavior, their target guest will not return. (Unless it's AstroWorld.)

I know that, in your mind, it is simple - but it isn't, because you
haven't set the statistical baseline such that there are no other
variables (you cannot conduct a valid experiment any otherway).
With ALL OTHER THINGS BEING EQUAL, it really doesn't matter. If one
school provides better education than the other, then that is the one
you choose. After this, a person needs to consider a hundred other
things before the decision can be intelligently made.
BTW, my son goes to a middle-class elementary school in which whites
are a minority, just like everyone else there. He could have gone to
a school where whites occupy a higher percentage of seats, maybe even
a majority - but we are sending him to the BETTER school. The great
majority of kids there - black, white, Hispanic, Asian, Pacific
Islander, you name it - are great kids, interested in the world around
them, interested in learning. There are a few bad apples, as with any
school, and most of them are from families where the parents are
essentially worthless (drug-addicted, in and out of jail, and so
forth). As it happens, most of these people are non-whites - but in a
highly diverse school, it could not be any other way, could it? FWIW,
my wife works at this school, I do some volunteer work there, and
organize evening telescope sessions for their science fair activities.
At those events, I get to meet hundreds of great kids of all colors.
I'm sure to some of us, the wonderful character and attitudes of these
children would be a revelation - but in this school, it is par for the
course.
