Yes, I know such a statement is near-blasphemy, but I couldn't help but put
Force at the very top of my list after this past August. I believe that S:RoS
is the perfectly designed coaster, but it is amazing what 100 feet will do to
you. MF in the front (well, 4th row) gave such incredible flojector and speed
and laterals that it blew everything I'd ever ridden before away. However, I
haven't had the chance to experience front row of S:RoS yet (all 7 of my rides
have been in the last/2nd last rows), and I've heard that is an even more
amazing experience.
But my question, for those that've done both, which do you prefer?

I agree 100% with you. I'm sure everyone knows my opinion of the two coasters
and I'll say it again. :) There is something about MF that puts it above even
SROS at SFNE. It has the unbelievable speed that SRoS can't match, and it
really does have some incredible floating airtime. Now SROS wins easily in the
airtime category, and the tunnel category for that matter, but everything just
WORKS on MF. There is no other coaster I'd rather be riding than Millennium
Force.

Sadly, I haven't been to New England this year, so it'll have to wait for
spring. I finally got a night ride on The Force in the front seat last
weekend (luck of the draw), and it was nothing short of a religious
experience. I got lucky enough to fly past the towers on the low pass during
the strobe effect, and the lights on the island were off to prevent midge
swarming (that would've been gross).

However, after seeing that video (with the Collective Soul music) of
Superman... dear God how could that ride NOT be better? I think what it comes
down to is your preference between powerful speed and airtime. The Force has
good floater air and is powerful and fast throughout. Superman appears to
toss you hard almost every couple of feet.

Man, I really need to get out there in May!

I prefer the SFNE S:ROS to MF. I rode MF front and back during the Red
Cross auction day, so it may have changed since then, but at that time
it did nothing for me. S:ROS has better pacing and better airtime by
far.

I have MF, and all the SROS's in my 'A+' category. Now I will say that I would
not have had MF in that category until our rides in August. I thought MF was a
good B+ or A- ride in June, but something happened to it between June and
August and I got to see it's full potential. It was amazing, and unexpected.

Cheers.

I also haven't been to SFNE, but MF was Da Bomb of the year. My first
ride was at night, near the back of the train. I put my hands up and
floated down the first hill. I've never gone sky diving, but now I
know what it feels like.

Sure, other coasters have the more elements, but we gotta give the #1
vote to MF to send a message that we want higher and faster coasters.

The first drop on MF is over in a second. You look at the first hill,
and you see how it curves down, goes straight for about 100 feet, then
curves out. Call me spoiled, but I want a coaster that goes up 500
feet, slow at the top to let you look around, goes straight to get the
train rolling, then straight down underground where it can curve out of
the dive. Yeah, I know, I'm dreaming, they need better wheels to
withstand the speed, but maybe they can push 350 or 400 in a few
years.

Ok, so when you guys are on those coaster shows, don't tell us how
scared you are. Look at the camera and say, "Yeah, this is the best
Intamin coaster in the world, but we're hoping for a 400 foot world
record breaker next year here in the USA."

Talk to you later.

Jeff is correct (for once, j/k hehe) in this statement. I rode Millennium
Force many times in my three months and six days working at Cedar Point this
past summer and while it did seem to get better every single time I rode it
(and Magnum almost got worse every time I rode it..) I still can't help
preferring SFNE's SROS. I am a huge fan of violent airtime and while MF is
awesome and the floater airtime is surreal, SROS just throws you and I love
every second of every single ride I've had on this coaster.

Ive not ridden the MF yet, but Ive talked to numerous people that have, and
even quite a few that were CP home park people. ALL after riding SROS agreed
that SROS is superior. The general gist of their reasoning was that while MF
has a fine first drop, the ride after that is rather boring. Also the speed
of the lift makes for poor pacing. You need time for the effect of being at
an amazing height, then the sudden drop for it to work.
SROS has also improved over the summer speed wise a bit, and overall ride
wise.

Depends on what S:RoS you are talking about! Even the video of SFNE S:RoS
looks better than the layout for MF. I also take notice that SFNE'S is somwhat
of a terain coaster, Using the natural hills and valleys on the coasters
footprint.

Don't get me wrong, I love MF and find it a excellent ride and as you said
Floatjector air. Ive got to get to SFNE!

I have to strongly disagree here! MF is anything but boring anywhere on the
circut.

I do belive that a few more turns and hills would have made it better though.

I have not ridden MF lately, and have no plans too (you'll understand
later)...

but, based on my rides,

SFNE Superman is the far superior ride:

a) more interesting layout
b) more airtime
c) and... this is the big one, I can pick my friggin seats.

even if MF is faster, it doesn't have the bunny hills of SFNE, and that
would count against it. Speed isn't everything to me in steel.. action
is.

I will not ride MF again until the seat selection issue is resolved to
the customers favor, unless there are absolutely zero lines. But then,
seeing as I'm definitely in the 'been there/done that' state of mind
with Cedar Point, I honestly don't expect to revisit that park for
quite a while, whereas I'd certainly like to return to SFNE.

Lake's RoS is also superior to the SFNE version. Just my opinion, anyway.

Intamin disagrees, along with most other riders.

How is MF superior?

By "boring" in the previous I was referring to the layout, and the "tube"
type tunnels, VS the mist filled ones on SROS SFNE.

Thus, MF "ranks" higher on my personal list than SROS.

I wouldn't rank MF up with the S:ROS rides but I must agree that it improved
later in the year over what it was in May. In May I didn't get much out of
it other than the first drop. The rest seemed to go real fast but it didn't
seem to have the punch I thought it should have had. Then I rode it in September
and I really liked it. It was the ride I had hoped for. No, I didn't expect
ejector airtime but I found it has some great, long lasting floatage. The last
speed bump has a nice pop to it too. The curves and forces are up to where I
hoped they would be. I think it just wasn't up to speed throughout in May.

After my recent rides I moved MF up over Goliath into 6th place. I have Apollo's
Chariot at #5 in front of MF. Now I like to ride MF as much as Magnum, which
I still rank higher.

MF has far better terain than SROS, MF being right next to lake Erie, and the
island is great terain.MF is much better in that area, but not as good as
MAGNUM, which i think is some of the best coaster real estate there is .

After coming home from the Boulderfest trip I had to think about this long and
hard. I think I have finally decided that while SFNE S:ROS is damn amazing I do
actually prefer MF over it. It's not the height but the speed that I like on
that ride. That being said I think that S:ROS is the most photogenic of any
ride on the planet! (Mike, Chris and I filmed it for three, yes THREE hours
from every vantage point we could find. Short of renting a boat and going down
the river, I think we covered it all!) And it certainly has the most airtime of
any ride I have ever been on. This is one ride that you *would* be thrown out
of if not for the lapbars and seatbelts. And that's on just about any hill! It
also has the best front row ride I have been on. (Haven't been on MF in the
front yet, but doubt it can top S:ROS's front row!)

To sum up, S:ROS zooms up to my number two spot. I had no idea when the year
started that my longstanding favorite steel (SFMM Viper) would be bumped not
once, twice, or even three times. No..my favorite steel list is now:

MF
SFNE S:ROS
Medusa (west)
Stealth
SFMM Viper (Sorry Viper, you're #5 now)

What a FANTASTIC year for new rides, both wood and steel. 2000 was simply
awesome. It will be hard to top the rides of 2000, though I am sure they will
keep trying! :)

This is a good question. I've been on both. Unfortunately, I've been on
S:ROS three times and MF about 103 times. It's one of those things where it
comes down to familiarity. S:ROS has the airtime. MF has the drop,
sustained speed, and is 2 hrs away. My only gripe, and it's a petty one,
with S:ROS is the excessive amount of mist in the tunnels. I wear glasses
and can't see a thing upon exiting the tunnels. Having the fog effect is
one thing. Recreating a tropical rainforest is another. It's a tough call,
but I would say MF ranks higher than S:ROS.

For the record, I don't maintain much of a top ten anymore, but I do have my
favorites and I do say A is better than B. Is it time for Mitch's poll yet?

SROS is next to the Connecticut River, and the left passenger (maybe right

The mist is real nice in the summer. The mist was heavier the night of the
ERT due to the already saturated and moist air. Its normally not QUITE that
bad. But the second tunnel should have a bit less, I agree.

During the summer that mist is real welcome when its 90 degrees.

I still say that MF late in the day is fantastic. Most of the folks
that had it inferior to Superman were the ones who hit the Point early
in the year and/or rode it in the morning. The rides I had offered
everything a coaster can offer except laterals, which I don't really
care about, especially on steel.

Having ridden all 3 of the Intamin hyper/giga designs id like to comment.
Those 3 are my top 3 coasters. SFDL/SFA deisgn has the most extreme air of the
3, but the design is lacking which makes it my #3. Millennium Force is the
most unreal coaster ever, the speed is amazing and the overbanks are very
intense, the floater airtime the ride has is great, it pops you into the lap
bar and hold you there for a good 5 seconds on the 182. The night rides i had
at the end of august were amazing and its deffinetly my favorite night ride out
there. This all togeather makes in my #2. Then theres the ride ive been
saying would be the ride of 2000 since i first herd it wasnt a clone!! SFNE
Superman has it all, airtime, laterals, 2 amazing tunnels, intensity, an
overbank, you name it this ride has it!! This is the completed Superman, when
i rode the DL Superman in 99 i said this is by far my #1, but it could be so
much more, and when they get there act togeather and build a good design it
will be the ultimate. By far my #1 coaster!! As of now it looks like this
will be the ride that stays at #1 for a long time, unless Intamin strikes a
deal and has Stengel design it.(which as of now doesent look like it will
happen in 2001). For the people who prefer Millennium Force to Superman, i can
see that, i almost did that until i got to ride SFNE again. Later everyone.
