In Vancouver, BC over (US) Labor Day I saw an amazing ride, and I hear another
was at the Oregon State Fair. Name is the "Ejection Seat".

There are two towers, ~120 ft hi and 30-40 ft apart. Each has a cable going
over a pulley and back down to a ~40 ft long Bungee Cord, pretty robust.
Attached to the two Bungees is a ~6 ft diameter ring with two seats inside.
The seats each have a 6-point Harness, ties you down good.

They lower this to the ground by letting out the cables and two victims
get in. They attach a cable-release catch to the bottom and then pull the
two cables so that the top of the Bungees stretch up to the tops of the
towers. Then they release the catch.

The victims shoot up at a reputed 4 G initial acceleration. Females
generally scream, but faintly because they're far up really quick. So
they wind up at zero Gs bounding around above the tops of the towers,
and this is what I initially saw from a distance. Plummet back down at
random orientation and the Bungees stop victims with fewer Gs. They let
you bounce up & down several times and then let you out and load new victims.

People PAY $30 to ride this thing. The line is real short. No way!

I saw this at the Minnesota State Fair, too. I thought it actually
looked kind of fun, but wasn't willing to pay for it. To me, it looked
more fun than bungee jumping, which I *won't* try.

The Michigan State Fair also had one this year. Looks utterly unsafe and
unappealing. I'll ride Banshee next year at CP, but I'll stay WAY clear of
this one.

BTW, anyone know if this is the same as Skycoaster at Kennywood? Or is
that a different ride?

There was one at the MN state fair for the past 2 years, operated by JD
adventures. They like to intertain the crowds along with teasing the riders.

The ejection seat boasts 0 to 70MPH in 1/2 sec, travels to 160 ft in the
air in less than 1 second creates 4.2 g's. It is a reverse bungee jump,
or a sling shot depending on how you look at it. 2 riders get to ride
for $60 or $50 for a single rider. Ligher loading travels faster, higher
and gets more twists and bounce. Kids get a "rocket ride"

The operator likes to tease riders by giving a flase count, launching
without a count etc. There is a wireless video camera and mike onboard
so they can sell a video and put riders comments on the PA. Many
comments of I'm gona kill you and why did you talk me into this were heard.

No, I did not ride it, The wait ranged from 30 Min up to 4 hours in the
evening. I whent to the fair alone this year so I did not have a victum
to talk into trying it.

Skycoaster is a different ride, more like a big swing. I never seen one
in person so I have no experance with them.

I did find someone I know who's 12 yearold talked us into trying a couple
of other rides like Top Spin, High Roller (his dad said no way) and a
falling star.

In one of the many media hype rides that they did, Murrey stated they
never had any injurys. The St. Paul Fire Department ambulance took up
parking across the street from it, making many visitors wonder.

The TV news media kept the crew busy doing live shots with the anchors,
reporters and others. Each station had to get into the act, I still have
a air check of the launch split screen with the onboard camera. The
ground disapears quickly.

: Actually the EJECTION SEAT is very safe and one hell of a thrill. I
: guess anything can happen at any given moment on any ride, but as far
: as I know, EJECTION SEAT has a safe record. I think your just scared.

At the MN state fair the line was long, 30 Min up to 4 hours.
Minnesotans must be up for a challenge!! As Murrey the operator put it
"Live on the edge alittle"
