Really? I loved Gwazi when it opened, it was easily the best GCI for a while and had some real action and airtime. I last rode it in '08, and while not as good, was still very good then. I have it ranked probably in the top 3rd of my rankings. Has it really gotten that bad in 5 years?

I have long thought it was "overrated" as a bad coaster. I'd rather
ride it than any of the three RCCA coasters I've been on. If Bandit had
been operating for the ACE tour it might have contended for last place
this year. Then again, I said that of Magnus Colossus several years
back and it fell short.

I give the best GCI award to White Lightning, followed closely by Lightning Racer.

Rode Roar the other day, was okay, but quite uncomfortably rough. Still way better than Gwazi, though.

I think there is a big difference between how coaster enthusiasts tend to
rank "bad" woodies vs "bad" steelies. I think in the steel category, we're
a lot less forgiving of roughness. Hence coasters like Gouderix constantly
ranking towards the bottom.

But with wood, I think that enthusiasts tend to be a lot more forgiving of
roughness, provided that it's at least an interesting ride.

And that's the problem with Grizzly. It's just damn boring.

Admittedly, all of this is changing over time. The advent of Intamin
plug-'n'-plays is showing enthusiasts that good woodies don't have to be
rough. And certainly there are large pockets of enthusiasts in both the
older ACE crowd and in the TPR crowd who are quite vocal in their hatred of
rough woodies. And that's starting to show in the rankings.

I'd have to agree with David.

I think people are too harsh on steel coasters smoothness/roughness. Seriously, some people say Kumba is rough! Seriously? Kumba? Try the SFOG Ninja! Now that's rough! Or the KD Shockwave!

Grizzly is boring, but in terms of the worst, not even close.

I've ridden all of the world's wood coasters as of January 2013 (http://www.bannister.org/coasters/parks/sp_wood.htm). The worst of the lot, by a very long way, was Montezum at Hopi Hari, which was so unbelievably awful that I'm amazed it's allowed to operate. It did its best to kill me despite the fact that my one and only ride was in the front row. Having said that, my rating is colo(u)red more than anything else by ride quality. Montezum could be a great ride, but it was far too rough for me to judge that.

There's a few other dishonorable mentions for me, such as the Coney Island Cyclone and Anaconda at Walygator.

Are you saying Coney Island Cyclone is one of the WORST?????

Based on when I rode it, yes. I don't care how good a ride layout is if it tries to kill me.

That was a few years ago though. My guess is that the retracking will have helped somewhat.

I'm a huge fan of the Cyclone. But even with the retracking, I could
hardly ride it earlier this year.

Of course, some of that might be due to me getting older, and less able to
withstand the truly violent rides.

And even at it's smoothest, the Cyclone is a VIOLENT ride!

I rode just in front of two NYPD cops who were in the back seat. She says to him, "this is my first time in the back seat." He says, "dere's only two kinds of people what rides in the back of the Cyclone: masochists and doze what don't know no bettah."

True story.

Very true statement, too!

I usually try it at least once per visit. Then, it depends on how rough it
is.

I guess that makes me a masochist!

I don't ride in the back seat any more.

I'm convinced that 30 is the line where you can't do it anymore.

I used to LOVE the back seat. The last time I did it, a few years ago, It was one of the most unpleasant coaster experiences I'd ever had.

Ill do second to back though.

I do 2nd to back in all coasters, unless they're only one bench to a car, then I take the back.

I'm 41 and still go back seat at least once for a non looping coaster. I will say it makes me a little more nervous than it used to.
