President Clinton Names Molitoris to Head Railroad Agency
To: National Desk, Transportation Writer
Contact: White House Office of the Press Secretary, 202-456-2100

WASHINGTON, April 13 -- President Clinton will nominate
Jolene Molitoris to be the administrator of the Federal Railroad
Administration, the White House has announced.
Molitaris served for more than a decade with the Ohio Department
of Transportation and Ohio Rail Transportation Authority.
"One of the most important things we can do to improve our
overall transportation system and to create high wage
manufacturing jobs is to improve and expand our nation's rail
system," said the president. "Jolene Molitoris is a seasoned
executive with direct experience in doing the kinds of things we
need to be doing."
Molitoris is currently the first executive director of The
Literacy Initiative, a private adult literacy organization. She
had previously served from 1983-91 as deputy director of the Ohio
Department of Transportation. In that role, she created a pro-
active, nationally-recognized rail program that started or
developed 13 new railroads in her state. From 1977-83, Molitoris
worked for the Ohio Rail Transportation Authority, starting as an
assistant liaison officer and moving up to deputy director and
eventually executive director.
She has worked on rail issues not only on the state level,
but also in national forums. She has served for two terms as the
Region I chair of the National Conference of State Rail
Officials, and was the 1989 and 1992 recipient of the High Speed
Rail Association President's Award for Outstanding Achievement.
Molitoris, who has a B.A. from the Catholic University of
America and an M.A. from Case Western Reserve, has also taught at
the Junior High School, High School, and college levels in Ohio.

Why? As far as I know, absolutely no progress has been made in
building any high-speed rail lines in Ohio.
