I was recently in Boston and noticed that the Huntington Avenue Green Line
to Arborway was still "suspended." Does any one know the status of this
line??

The whole line isn't "suspended"--the part that runs along Huntington
Avenue itself is still very much in service. The line is subway from
Copley Square to just beyond Symphony Hall, then runs in center
reservation to Brigham Circle, then becomes street running for the
rest of the way. The half mile from Brigham Circle to the Heath
Street turnaround loop is the MBTA's only street running track still
in revenue service.

The "suspended" part of the line, all street running, continues south
from Heath Street, along South Huntington Avenue, Centre Street, and
South Street, to Forest Hills station in Jamaica Plain. (Note that
"South Huntington Avenue" is a completely different street from
"Huntington Avenue".)

The MBTA has promised to restore service at some vague time in
the future, after they buy wheelchair-accessible Green Line cars,
but I don't know when this is supposed to happen. There is a loop
track in front of the new Forest Hills Orange Line station that has
never been used (and indeed has no wires); if and when the line
goes back into service, this will replace the Arborway terminal.

Anyone know more?

They have done some track work preparatory to re-opening it, and the "official"
statement is that it will be re-opened when they get the new wheelchair
accesible streetcars (pardon, LRVs). Some of us are skeptical, though, as there
is some opposition to return of the cars. Some people think they'll find an
excuse not to do it, although i think the 'T' really wants to. My personal
guess is that the rail service will be restored "eventually", but I wouldn't
advise holding your breath while waiting.

There were posters in Red Line cars for a trade show (now
past) which was inviting local participation in the new "Low
Floor Green Line Car" construction. I don't remember if it
said how soon cars would be built, but they're doing
*something* about the new cars.

I don't know how effective advertising on the Red Line would
be for something like this, but I guess it was free.
