Yes,

I own a 300, which is almost the same as the EKD 100/111. The latter has
thumbwheels to choose a frequency and no tuning knob.

The 300 has a tuning knob en push buttons to dial a frequency.

Both receivers has no memories.

They're very good receivers especially for SSB and CW (50 herz filter!!) and
coded signals.

Take a look at:

Hi,

the RFT EKD 100 and EKD 300 differs only in the frequency input. The 100
series have thumbweel input, the 300 series have tuning knob (rotary
encoder) and an input keyboard.
EKD 100 was developed in the former GDR in 1977, EKD 300 in 1978/79. There愀
also a newer model, the EKD 500, build in 1987 and later. The EKD 700 was
developed but never went in production, due of the end of GDR. RFT Funkwerk
Koepenick was bought by Rohde & Schwarz in 1991, they stopped the
production. There愀 still the ELKOPlUS GmbH, settled in a part of the
Funkwerk, providing service and spare parts.
The EKD 100 and 300 uses the same circuit cartridges (Kassetten), 4
changeable shielded units, the power supply of the EKD 300 is the same as in
the EKD 500. There are roumours that the Power supply of the EKS 100 is too
low dimensionated, but I had never problems with it. The frequency input
between EKD 300 and 100 is different, but both tune in the same way by
tuning voltage.
The RX houses in a big aluminium diecast box, the RX is connected by
contacts, so you can put it out and connect it by a special cable
(Absetzkabel) for servicing. The chassis is a very rugged construction with
easy-to-change-components, suitable for fast service in military use. This
causes the weight of about 25 kg.
EKD 100-500 provides AM, LSB/USB, ISB, Synch with selectable sideband and F1
(one-channel RTTY) with build-in decoder. The bandwidhts are 50, 250, 700,
1500, 3000 and 2700, 3700 in SSB. The RX has mechanical filters.
EKD 100/300 have no memory neither PC connection, but they are more
sensitive than the later EKD 500. These sets have 99 memorys, 2400 baud
RS232 for remote operation, can be chained up to 99 RX and controlled from
another EKD 500 or computer.

Greetings from Aachen, Germany

Chris

Chris:
I have to say that I was in Germany last week on business. We drove from
Heidleburg to Dresden (well it sounded like a good idea) and, while it took
us a long time, it was a beautiful drive. The next morning someone from the
plant we were visiting picked us up at the hotel in Dresden and drove us to
the Carl Suss plant. When we arrived, after getting out of the car I told
the driver that if he drove that fast in the US, if he didn't get the death
penalty (I'm kidding), they would put him in jail and never let him out
again (I'm not kidding)!!

He went over 200 Km/hr Yikes that was about 125 MPH +!!

Anyway we had a wonderful time in Germany and Dresden, a city I had never
seen before, was beautiful.

And at that point the driver was thinking, "auslander".<G> I can tell you
that if you're not going at *least* 100mph on A8 from Muenchen [or was that
A3.. whatever] and you're in the left lane, you're toast.

I had the grand opportunity to drive from Munich to the Austrian border in the
late 70's and got up to 150 mph. What a fun ride! To bad we can't drive that
fast here.

Is that all, when I drive from the UK to Poland in a ford Sierra, I
typically do 100mph and BMW's overtake me like I am standing still, they
must be topping 150-160mph!

Ah the freedom of the open autoban !

Mind you when the have a crash its a fine site and causes 20km tail backs !
It is like a bomb exploded !

Hi Brian,

there´s no general speed limit on the German Autobahn (highways with
separated lanes for each direction). At some dangerous places and at some of
the old East German Autobahn there´s speed limit, dependino on the
situation. Between Aachen and Cologne there are signs above the lanes
showing speed limits depending on traffic intensity, truck traffic intensity
and weather conditions. Computer controlled and built in 1988/89 after
several big accidents caused by fog. They crashed with about 100 km/h into
the end of a traffic jam.
The lack of spped limit causes several bad accidents, even it´s not easy to
drive faster than about 140-150 km/h due to the traffic density.
Is it right, that in Montana, there´s also no general speed limit?

I hope you enjoyed the ride and your visit to Dresden, although the town was
hit badly by the flood in August.

It would sure help reduce the overpopulation problem. No wonder
Europe's population has been static.

Well I did better than my first trip to Germany: No matter how far I
drove along the highway, I kept passing signs for the same town - Ausfart.

Guess that's safer than going to Eingang.<G>

I used to go to Augsburg a lot. I can buy Spaten (beer) here. It's the
Tchibo Beste Bohne (coffee) that I really miss. I tried getting Tchibo to
export here, but they couldn't, wouldn't, or mein Deutch ist fer nicht (and
I probably ticked them off trying <G>).
