You know how men (most of the crew of the average Navy ship) often wind up
in prison...

Still, sounds like a legend to me. You *have* heard the story of the "crossing
the equator" ceremony in the Navy, I presume. Maybe someone more knowledgeable
that I will post it, it made Newsweek during the big gays-in-the-military
fiasco.

There's a great book called "Sodomy and the Pirate Tradition" which talks about
the all-male sailing culture of the Caribbean 1700 - 1800's.
