Basically this radio crashes...from what she said is that if it doesn't
turn on it means it's in a constantly loop software wise. First she
says to reset it (which I have on many a time) then she said if it
doesn't work to take out any powersource (AC or battery) and then to
wait 24 hours...reset it and put the batteries in it.
That worked before but then it crashed again.
When the radio works it's fantastic. I bought to replace a Grundig S350
(which is also great however has way too much drift and the wide switch
doesn't seem to work..i.e. I only get narrow...so if it drifts and the
wide function doesn't work it's frustrating)
In terms of what causes this for the Redsun is I thought I heard
something about a static charge...if this is true then this doesn't
take much!
Any help would be greatfully appreciated.
Did you check to make sure the sleep timer is activated? If it is, the radio
will shut off after a specified time. Check the manual.
Rich
There was no sleep timer on and it didn't come with a manual. I've
found one online but it didn't get that technical for troubleshooting.
I'de just throw that Chinese-made, Grundig S350 look-alike in the
garbage-heap !
Did you try smacking it a couple of times? That is one of the first
things you want to try. It works for radios sometimes.

If the microprocessor should really lock up, I would blame some kind of
production error (a bad solder joint might do). In this case the rx
would need to be returned.

Bytes are generally harmless - unless taken to bits.
Yes there is. Here is a copy/paste from my manual which you should have
gotten with it.

4. Adjusting the Sleep Time
Press the POWER / SLEEP button (8) once, the LCD panel will
display the "60" and the signs, representing that the radio will
be turned off in 60 minutes time.
If you wish to change the sleep time, press the POWER / SLEEP
button (8) again before it disappears, the figures on the LCD panel
will change as follows:
90 -> 60 -> 45 -> 30 -> 15 -> 5 -> 1 -> on -> (back to 90)
If you stop at 30, the radio will be turned off automatically within 30
minutes.
If you stop at "on", the radio will be turned on until further manual
intervention, the will not appear on the LCD panel.

If your radio is "crashing" (shutting off after a time) this is what's going
on.
Keep us posted. It really is a nice unit. I got two, I liked it so much.

I'm starting to think that there's a problem with the design with the
way the weight is distributed on the buttons. On the Degen I had there
was a gradual wearing down (and dirt or something else) that got on the
knob so when you turned it it didn't fully correspond (so it went up
sometimes when you went down and vice versa)
has anyone taken these things apart? I thought I saw some pictures of
this apart...
Well now it kinda works...
Audio is fine and I can tune things...but the bottons on the side don't
work, I can't turn it off....
Ok I just reset it and now it won't turn on again!
I think I'm going to just take out the batteries and let it sit till
maybe 8pm tomorrow
I'm wondering if you are still on the hook for shipping if you opt for the
extended warranty.

If you bought it directly from China I think it wouldn't include the
shipping just due to the costs alone...
and i do own a Redsun RP2100 Radio
that was bought on eBay from China ~ RHF

A five pound hammer will fix it nicely.
Well technically they ALL will come from china reguardless of the name
on it.
My problem lies more with the respect in terms of repairing it...if
it's DOA I'll just tinker with it...maybe open it up.
On the same note what makes us think that the KA2100 is better
qualitywise than the RP2100?
Kaito is great don't get me wrong I have a 1103 and if it wasn't for
the knob it would be great (it was a early batch and will probably get
another)
Also is there a KA 3000 to come out when the RP3000 comes out? If the
quality is up to kaito standards AND comes with the whole SSB thing
that would be fantastic but it looks like we'll have to wait till the
fall for it
YES FOLKS, ANOTHER SATISFIED CUSTOMER COMES FORWARD
WITH YET ANOTHER "TRUE OWNERSHIP EXPERIENCE" OF CHINESE
MADE RADIO JUNK.
YES SIR-REE! YOU HAVE GOT TO LOVE THOSE CHINESE RADIOS.
WHERE ELSE IN THE WORLD BUT CHINA CAN YOU GET:
STRIPPED SCREWS HOLDING THE COVERS IN PLACE, CHEAP LEAD
BASED PAINT POWDERCOATING SPRAYED OVER THE CHEAPEST PLASTIC
POLYMER BASED CASES AVAILABLE, COUNTERFEIT COPIES OF IC
CHIPS, ELECTROLYTIC CAPACITORS THAT GO DRY AND FAIL WITHIN
ONE YEAR UNDER POWER, TECHNICAL MANUALS THAT READ IN CHINGLISH
LIKE THEY WERE WRITTEN BY A COMPLETE RETARD, KNOBS THAT
FALL OFF OR THE SHAFTS CRACK OR ARE HELD IN PLACE WITH
HOT MELT GLUE OR WAX OR MASKING TAPE, SHARP EDGES INSIDE
THAT WILL CUT LIKE DADDY'S OLD GILLETE RAZOR, POWER CORDS THAT
SMELL LIKE A CHEMICAL FACTORY...AND FINALLY THE EVER-PRESENT
KOOKY BRAND NAMES THEY COME UP WITH.
(Then you folks wonder why these piecess of CRAP sell for so little
money - go figure round eye! PFHBBLTTTT!!!!)
So did you really break the antenna or is the bernzOmatic repair job
part of the dream too? Hard to tell where reality starts? I hardly
ever dream but last night I dreamed i had a pair of nun chuks. I'd
probably clonk myself in the head with a pair of those.

My DE1107's LCD clock display died after four months of use -- not critical.
Other than that, the radio worked fine. My replacement is flawless, gets
used at the office daily and it sounds great!
Judging by posts from various groups, American badged Kaito radios faired
pretty much the same. I think it's bogus to make the blanket statement that
all Chinese radios are junk, however it would be fair to say that their QC
seems to be dodgy.
My Tecsun BCL3000 arrived in perfect condition, gets used daily and never
displayed any problems.
I've long felt that some extra warranty to offset shipping costs back to
China was in order.
