Does anyone know of any shortwave logging software for Windows that is
FREEWARE? DXtreme is a bit beyond my needs, I need something "lite"
(just a program to enter and display loggings, maybe with printout
capability). If nothing is available, I'm going to write my own
program but I want to avoid it if possible.
Thanks,
Tim

But writing your own programs can be great fun.

Oh, sometimes... :-). I have to be "in the mood" though. Programming
of any kind takes some heavy-duty concentration, and I'm a pretty
laid-back person, I don't normally enjoy burning out the brain cells.
For a free spreadsheet program, you might want to take a look at
Spreadsheet32. Its available from
http://www.byedesign.freeserve.co.uk/
Its a small download, and can read Excel and CSV format files.
It doesnt have filtering capability but can sort. No time
limits or nags on the program and no cost.

Another free one, the one I use can be found here :
http://www.arachnoid.com/dbedit/
It isn't perfect, and I'm not sure if it can read Excel files or not, but
it's a great little DataBase program to be sure.

To everyone who is recommending Excel:
I have Excel 95, but don't know how to use it (and it looks like a
pretty steep learning curve). Is there anyone who has a "DX Logging"
template they could create and send to me so I could just load it and
enter the information?
Thanks very much for any help,
Andreas

However, nevertheless some translations in the form [abbreviation :=]
German expression = English expression ("German For Beginners", Lesson
1):
Freq. := Frequenz = frequency
Uhrz. := Uhrzeit = time (hour?)
Dat. := Datum = date
Ld. := Land = country
Stat. := Station = station
Sp. := Sprache = language
Programminhalt = program content
Kuer. := Kuerzel = abbreviation (for the name)
Radio = radio (receiver)
J. := Jahr = year
B. := Bemerkung = remark
E := Englisch = English
F := Franzoesisch = French
S := Spanisch = Spanish
P := Portugiesisch = Portuguese
D := Deutsch = German
I hope this helps.

What I need is an Excel spreadsheet template with all the frequency
data removed, so I can make my own loggings.
By the way, I appreciate the thought very much, Andreas.
I believe I'm going to write my own logging software for Windows. To
greatly simplify matters, I think I'll use Visual Basic 3.0 (16-bit),
since all it requires is "vbrun300.dll." All the later versions of
Visual Basic require tons of DLL's and all kinds of large run-time
files.
