Im in a situation where the best I can do is about 50 feet of wire to a
tree and was wondering if one of these active antennas would be an
upgrade or a downgrade from my 50 footer endfed?
Thanks...Gil
I have an H800 that I picked up for camping and vacations.
I can't predict how it'll perform compared to your present antenna, but
considering how small it is, it performs quite well. Given the entire
antenna would be farther from the house, I'd expect it to pick up less
RFI.
My pet peeve is the normal ones like Grove has come with the coax
"permanently" attached. If you order direct from LF engineering, you
can get one with a connector so you can easily replace the coax. It
adds little to the cost.
Mine still works, but I've stopped using it because the coax is showing
wear at the antenna end.
But personally, if I was in the market for an active antenna for
permanent use in one location, I'd go with the Wellbrook.

I had no success at all with the LF Engineering H800 Skymatch antenna.
The biggest problem was severe overloading of my R75.
.
I also tried the LF Engineering LF/VLF models in the past,
and they had the same problem.

I used an H800 for a while. I thought it was a good
antenna...surprisingly good. It's small size is the key to its success.
If you find a nice, quiet spot for it, you'll pick up very little noise
and hear lots and lots of signals. It's especially good below 5 mhz, in
my experience.
I know they're a lot more expensive, but have you considered one of the
Wellbrook loops? They're made for people with space limitations and I
suspect that they would outperform your wire by a considerable margin.
