They claimed they could handle a 250 000 barrel a day spill.

I wouldn't doubt that. What troubles me is that BP said they could deal
with a 1/4 million barrel a day spill. They were obviously
misrepresenting the facts in order to get a drilling permit. They lied
for money.

Recovery Systems was on CNN a short while ago, he was talking about
Bioremediation for cleaning up the oil gusher in the Gulf of Mexico.He

Abiogenic? I've heard it called Abiotic. It makes perfect sense. Some of
the strata where the stuff is located has probably NEVER been exposed to

I fully agree that the President is not grabbing this specific problem
by the scruff of the neck as he should. He should be allowing
everyone with an idea for cleaning up what has already been expelled,
to go out there and do their thing. There are millions of tons of
absorbent hay and peat waiting to be spread across the surface slick,
and that stuff could then probably be burned in a slightly modified
coal-fired plant. There are probably a million people who would
answer the call to volunteer a few days of time. He should be telling
BP to get on these ideas forthwith, and any others that have a better
than 25% chance of working. Anything to sop up the mess and avoid as
far as possible using those toxic dispersants. He should have called
in EVERY oil company to help, and every other nation with any
experience in this type of problem. It should all have been done long
ago. I am pretty dismayed by what has happened here.

But it is also critical to realize that until a measure is in place
and implemented, that flow cannot be fully stanched by anyone - not
the government, not the oil companies - only by the earth itself. The
technology is not out there to effectively stop this thing short of
drilling that new side well to siphon off the flow. That,
unfortunately, takes lots of time.

A much better and very persistent cleanup effort we've every right to
expect. The stopping of the flow? We can only blame ourselves for
being the junkies, and BP etc. for being the pushers, and hope that
when they drill that directional tunnel, it hits the original vent.
