The Modern Urban and Suburban RFI / EMF Noise Environment
That We Live-In "IS" An Electrical Energy Dumping Ground [.]
First - Think about your House {Home} as being Zone # 1
a Ten (10) Yard (Ten Meter) Circle and the Primary Noise
Generating Source that impacts your ability to Listen to
Shortwave Radio and any other type of Radio Listening.
* * * * * The RFI / EMF "Noise" Ground Zero * * * * *
Within the House are many small individual Point-Sources
of RFI or large size Generators of EMF "NOISE" from the
PLL Circuitry in your Radio; a Computer or Cable Modem;
to the Moter / Compressor in the Refrigerator or Air-Conditioner.
FIXING IT ONE-BY-ONE :
You may have gone about the House and Identified
a few or all of these Noise Sources and you may
have in-fact eliminated a few or all of them to the
point that your Radio Listening has improved greatly.
Zone # 2 - Twenty (20) Yard (Twenty Meter) Circle
Your Next-Door-Neighbors - Here are those two to five
Houses within the Circle that just like yours are each
Generators of Noise. But since they are twice the
distance away the Noise generated by each is One
Fourth (1/4) that of your own Home - But that can
still add-up to (2X * 1/4 = 1/2 or 5X * 1/4 = 1+1/4)
the level of near by Noise relative to your own Home.
Zone # 3 - Forty (40) Yard (Forty Meter) Circle
Your Nearby-Neighbors - Here are those five to
twelve Houses within the Circle that just like yours
are each Generators of Noise. But since they
are four times the distance away and the Noise
generated by each is One Sixteenth (1/16) that
of your own Home - But that can still add-up to
(5X * 1/16 = 1/3 or 12X * 1/16 = 3/4) the level of
nearby Noise relative to your own Home.
Zone # 4 - Eighty (80) Yard (Eighty Meter) Circle
Your Local-Neighbors - Here are those 16 to 32
Houses surrounding your Home within the Circle
that again just like yours are each Generators
of Noise. But since they are eight times the
distance away the Noise generated by each is
One Sixty-Fourth (1/64) that of your own Home
- But that can still add-up to (16X * 1/64 = 1/4
or 32X * 1/64 = 1/2) the level of nearby Noise
relative to your own Home.
BEYIND THE ZONES - THE LOCAL AREA
The Quarter-of-a-Mile "Local Area" Neighborhood :
Within your Neighborhood or development out to
a distance of 440 Yards (400 Meters) which is
a Quarter-of-a-Mile centered around your Home
How Many ? Count Them How Many Homes are
There There ? And Think About It ! - Each One
is a Point-Source for Noise in your "Local Area"
that can and often does impact on your ability to
Listen to the Radio.
