I don't have a 6790 these days or a manual, but I found the answer in the archives of premium RX:
Either no filters are installed in the system, or the synthesizer
signal strength is out of range prescribed for BITE.
Probable fault A2
I think I'd start by pushing down on the rom chips to make sure they're seated properly, and then rerun bite.
Next, I'd pull one filter at a time, and try bite after each one.
Then I'd try disconnecting and reconnecting the all the connectors involved with the A2 board in case one of them isn't making
good contact.
If these ideas don't work, you'll probably need a service manual and test equipment. The 6790 service manual wasn't nearly as
detailed or helpful as the ones I have for my Harris and WJ's.
The 6790 doesn't do a bite test every time it turns on - just if the memory back up battery is dead or has just been changed, or
if you manually start it.
Replacement batteries are hard to find but it's easy enough to solder in a battery holder and use a couple of size N or AAA
nicad batteries.
Good luck!
