I was in an RS the other day and saw the DX-375 marked down. I'm in one of
those "new receiver" moods, and was looking for a small portable for
travel. Does anyone out there have one of these? I'd appreciate any
comments--I know it doesn't have SSB, but that doesn't matter to me in a
travel radio. Thanks!

Marc,

In my opinion, the DX-375 is alot of radio for US $69.95, it's similar to
the Grundig 305, runs forever on 2 C batteries and has decent audio for
a small portable. Sensitivity is fair, selectivity isn't bad. It's no
DX machine, which surprises nobody, but it's probably the best radio
around under US $100.

My $.02 worth, happy listening!

Ya get what you pay for.

If you expect Sangean 818 performance in a DX-375, then buy the Sangean
818.

The DX-375 is a GREAT little spare receiver. I have one on top of my
kitchen fridge. The DX/LOCAL switch helps to eliminate overload.

Using an AC adapter helps to boost the signals on the receiver. I
would suggest buying one since the battery drain is very rapid.

If using batteries, invest in ni-cads or the "Renewal" alkalines.

I agree with Marc, the DX-375 is pretty nice for the price. I had one for
about a week. The only reason I returned it was because I decided that a
Sangean 909 was more to my liking, and I was willing to spend the extra
bucks. However, I plan to get my Dad the DX-375 for his birthday.
It is not too sophisticated and only has a few memories (10 SW???). Also,
there is no antenna jack, but you could clip a piece of wire on the rod
with a gator clip...

Marc--It's my "travel radio," too. Pedistrian performance--I didn't
expect more--it gets the "biggies" out West where I live. Pretty
good sensitivity. Decent audio for the price...amd the batteries last
and last. As you probably noticed, it doesn't have a UTC clock.

I remedied that lack by buying one of those "button" clocks you see on
sale at auto parts stores for a few dollars--and setting it to UTC.
All I have to do is add "12" to the time during daylight hours in US.

In short, worth spending $70.

Marc,

I did a side-by-side comparison of Grundig's YB-305 and the Radio Shack
DX-375 recently. The YB-305 won out in FM and MW (AM), but the
shortwave reception was pretty close with the edge being given to the
YB-305 for better fidelity (audio), and slightly better selectivity and
sensitivity .

I like the control layout on the YB-305, too. Also, the DX-75 while
having the same frequency range and number of short wave bands, will not
continually cycle through a given band like the YB-305. The YB-305
weighs more, too, telling me that it is better built and quality. But
at $127 at L.L. Bean's retail store, that's $57 more than the DX-375.

The bottom line: The RS DX-375 is lot of radio for $70, especially with
direct-entry frequency capability. A good choice for a travel radio.

Buy one and try it out on Radio Shack for 30 days.

Been using the DX375 for about 6 months. I bought it on sale also for I
think $60 from RS. I am very happy with it. If you can getit on sale its a
great deal. Buy the AC adaptor for it and it saves in battery costs.
