Hi. I found alot of discussion about how someone made a computer control
program for the new ICOM Q7A mini HT which would allow reception of .500-1.9
GHz. I found and downloaded the program. It also says that I need a OPC-478
cloning cable or one for a Yaesu (I don't think I'll be buying one though... I
have the schematic for it, if anyone needs it you can email me and I'll send it
to you, .JPG format.) The author of this program says alot how you can make
the radio tune .500-1.9 GHz which is more than the usual 30-1.3 GHz range....
now my questions: 1. After you used the program, can you still tune .500-1.9
GHz if you are using the radio when it's not plugged into the computer
interface (stand-alone)? 2. Does this "software mod" also enable full 800 MHz
(I would think not, but who knows...)? 3. How good is the sensitivity on the
MW and HF band? Is MW (AM) any good? Is the receiver curcuit the same as on
the new IC R2? (Same as the Q7A, but no TX, 400 memory channels, and .500-1.3
GHz RX out of the box.) Please respond by email as well as in the newsgroup
because my access to here isn't the best. Thanks!

I LOVE THE IC-Q7A!!!
P.S. If anyone has a extra ICOM OPC-478 or one of the compatible cloning
cables for the Yaesu laying around that they want to sell (or trade?) for less
than what ICOM is asking for one, please email me.

I tried the hack however I wasnt able to pick up a damn thing below 30MHz it
read it in the display I even got it down to 60 KHz before it locked but I
couldnt receive a damn thing.

Supposedly the Q7 board is the same as the R-2 however from my observations
that isnt the case as for the 400 channels didnt get it that high-full it
stayed at 200-full 800MHz nope sorry not too mention when I went from say 5MHz
up to 30MHz once it passes 30Mhz the mod is deleted and will not display below
30MHz, youll have to redo the mod through the software. one thing I also
noticed is if you did the original mod by removing the required diodes the
software mod will not work the software reads "IC-Q7A NOT FOUND". The software
is good in theory and all but it still needs lots of work....

I got the software to do everything as advertised.

I seem to remember reading that if you store <30MHz freqs in a memory
channel, then use the radio standalone to access that channel it
works, even though the display does not show you the <30MHz freq.
I'll have to test this when my new Q7A shows up - hopefully today.

Everyone else is. You are doing something wrong, AM (0.5-1.6) is
excelent,
(with the stock antenna) SW for example on 6MHz in AM there is a station
on every 5KHz.

Open the SQ, set to AM and go outside the Hause, if you don't recieve
everything, something is wrong with yout IC-Q7

That is a difference in the Firmware and the EEPROM, not the Hardware.

That should not happen, maybe there is some messup in your EEPROM, try
to
reset the IC-Q7 and upoad your data and try again.

Not possible, I (and others) have done every possible mod to the IC-Q7,
the
Software UP/DOWNload have nothing to do with that, you are doing
something wrong.

Say that to my wife and 2 kids :)))))))))))))))

I can spend just 1 more weekend, if more => then i am a single again
:)))))))))
So just one more release, to remove just one bug and make a little
cosmetics.

And the Software IS PERFECT

Any <30.000 I store in memory shows in the display. You just can't tune using
that freq in the VFO, or it defaults to the closest allowable freq.
