What you may be referring to is a modification that can be done to this
scanner to allow it to recieve cellular as well as some TV frequencies. It
is a simple keyboard mod. No soldering or any of that crap.
Check hear for the instructions.

Use the same instructions as the PRO-51. I've done it to my PRO-46 and it
works.

If you want to figure out the average street price of a used scanner,
check auction sites like eBay (www.ebay.com). Don't expect a huge value
increase - there are plenty of scanners available to receive cellular phone
frequencies (the blocked frequencies on newer scanners after 1994) and the
Pro-46 may not have some of the features found on later scanners.
Modifications for this scanner, if available, can be found on web sites
covering modifications - use a search engine to look for "Pro-46
modifications."

I just purchased a BC780XLT and I started reading groups like this one to
learn more and I saw people talking about radios before 1994. I remember
the salesman at the time talking about this being one of the last ones you
could buy, but I didn't know what he was talking about until now.
I went to the web site for modification instructions for this radio. Has
this always needed modification, or does it do something more right out of
the box? He made it sound like it picked up frequencies that would be
blocked on future radios.
It sounds like they are blocked on this one as well without the
modification. Does that mean pre '94 could be modified and post '94 can not?
Just curious. Trying to get into the hobby.
Thanks for all the info,
Jim
