NOTES FOR OCTOBER:
AURORA 800:
On October 10th Simulcasting of the two dispatch groups and the Services
Group on the old UHF radio system were discontinued. The Aurora Fire
Department will continue to simulcast their dispatch group on 154.400 until
completion of their new fire station signaling system.
DOUGLAS COUNTY FIRE:
The changeover for all of the agencies that are dispatched by the county
is completed. To our knowledge all Douglas County Fire agencies except
Parker and Louviers ares dispatched by the county on 151.115.
DENVER 800:
Same old same old. Intermittent crashes, consoles failing and four
letter verbs over the air about system manager failures. Time to string
up the equipment manufacturer in my opinion.
TANDY NEWS:
As if it were not commonly known Tandy Corporation [aka Radio Shack]
had to pull all their 800 MHz scanners that were manufactured by uniden
after the implementation of the TDDRA in April because of a factory test
mode that included one of the Cellular frequencies announced the PRO-51
should be back in the stores this month. Tandy also released the PRO-2035
the 1000 channel successor to the PRO-2006. There have been mixed comments
about the new scanner and complaints about the setup of 10 banks of 100
channels that lead to a lot of unused memory locations in cases where a
bank is dedicated to a trunked radio system which will at the most use
only 20 channels. Otherwise use for blocks of frequencies works well.
For now anyway rampant word on the street is that Tandy will be trying
to get a 400 channel triple conversion portable out by Christmas.
SEASONAL FREQUENCIES:
With the rapid approach of the winter season on us adding the highway
maintenance frequencies can be very beneficial while traveling or on
the way to and from work. The Colorado Department of Transportation
frequencies are of value when traveling the interstate highways. Here
is a listing of the CDOT frequencies used for the Front Range and Summit
County. 151.070, 151.085 for the Metro Area and I-70 Tunnel approaches.
151.265 for El Paso County. And 159.045 for Boulder, Larimer and Weld
Counties. These frequencies are allocated statewide so these will be
active in other areas of the state. For specific areas look under the
area jurisdiction for which you are interested in with frequencies listed
as street maintenance or city services.
