I'm confused, I just bought a Pro-2036 scanner from RS and after looking
for any mods for it I've found None. It seems to be a clone of the
Uniden BC 890XLT in every way except that the Uniden is continuous
coverage and the Pro-2036 is in blocks. Are the electronics the same
inside and can the RS unit be full coverage also. Im pleased with the
unit but would like to get a little more out of it if possible. Can
anyone help?
Thanks, Dennis

I tested both models last year, side by side, at the same time.
If I recall, both units have the same frequency coverage.
Specifying the coverage in several bands is a marketing ploy.

The only difference between the BC890XLT and PRO-2036 I could find
were:

1) The cabinet colors and control markings are different.
2) The squelch controls work in opposite directions to conform
to the opposite Uniden and Radio Shack conventions.

From the FAQ:

BC890XLT (Uniden): Same as Radio Shack PRO-2036. Tuning
knob. 200 channels, global delay. Count, AUX, and Auto
Store features. Scans and searches fast. Accepts optional
CTCSS board. Dual conversion with 10.8 MHz and 450 kHz IF
-- lots of images and birdies. Prone to severe intermod,
especially when used with an outdoor antenna. See "The
Uniden BC-890XLT and Radio Shack PRO-2036," by Bob Parnass,
in June 1995 Monitoring Times.

The Pro-2036 is actually an exact copy of the uniden BC700A
eccept for minor facial cosmetics.

I've been looking myself for a mod to open it up but no luck yet.
If I find one I'll post. You do the same, ok

later, Brett
