There have been several postings about battery packs going bad.
The battery pack in my sons 100xlt (same as in the 200xlt) died of
neglect. Instead of forking out almost 40 bucks, I took the case apart,
and went to a local electronic supply (Electronics Supply, 250 NE 45th,
Seattle, Wa (206) 632-2222). They have a fantastic supply of batteries,
nicad, and gell cells.

Don made a pack, welded straps between the cells, glued,
and shrinkwrapped the pack for a little over $16.00. These were the
exact replacement Sany cells that were in the unit originally. After
this all I had to do was solder two wires, just like the original pack,
and screw the case together.

I am sure that most major cities have a similar electronic
supply store that can provide this service. Failing that you can go to a
good hobby shop, or order batteries from mail order firms like Tower
Hobbies (check r/c magazine). When I have to make my own packs, I use a
piece of thick solderwick to interconnect the batteries. This provides a
sturdy, low resistance path between the cells. Shrink wrap tubes are
available insizes big enough to seal a D cell pack.

I have saves a lot of money making battery packs this way. I
have some R/C vehicles, and boats that I have made 12 volt 5 amp/hr
packs at about 1/2 of the original packs.

Hope this helps.

Have fun.

Most of the battery places advertised in the ham magazines will sell you a
new sanyo pack all ready to go for 20 bucks.Go to a local hamfest and if it's
not a tiny one, somebody will be there selling packs, just make sure it's put
together right or it wont fit. They sell a specific pack for bearcats.

I have bought inserts (just the cell packs) from W & W Associates for my
Icom IC-2AT 2-meter rig and they worked well. I don't know that they
sell packs or inserts for the BC-x00 scanners but I would be surprised
if they did not. Haven't had to replace the one in my BC-200XLT yet.
I'm sure there are also other dealers around. I heard one time that
someone makes batteries and a drop in rapid charger for the Bearcats but
I have never seen it. These were just the first ones I ran across in
the April issue of QST. Hope this helps. Talk with you whenever. . .

Metro West sells these, as well as "docking-station" type base stands.
