Hi all,
I'm going to consider to purchase an Icom ic-r8500 receiver and i would
hear some comments about this radio since i found on the Net just the
specifications and advertisements but no reviews or real tests.
I would use it mainly as a Vhf/Uhf high performance scanner receiver.
Thanks for any infos.

The only negative thing I ever heard was if you scan across bands, i.e.; 40,
150, 450, 850 MHz, it has an annoying clicking, caused from band changing
relays. This is typical of many Icom's under this circumstance, not really
a fault of the IC-R8500. Other than that, it's a fine radio!

I have too an AOR-5000 and I have had a ICOM R-8500 .The AR 5000 is more
complicated and more little but the sensitivity is better on the all bands
and up to 2,6Ghz with many user enable options.

I've also owned both. I'd say the AOR is better suited for scanning; the
Icom is better suited as an all purpose receiver. Haven't looked at prices
lately but I thought the AOR was $400-$500 more than the Icom (at least the
5000+3 is). There's a better choice of software for the AOR, but the basic
Icom software does make it easy to drive the radio.
