MDT Protocol vs. KDT: What is the difference?

I understand that MDT (Mobile Data Terminal)
is a Motorola protocol used by public service agencies.
Police dispatchers here in Baltimore, Maryland are
always using the term "KDT" when referring to data
transmissions. Is MDT and KDT one and the same?
If not, can "KDT" be decoded by the same software
as MDT, or is it totally different?

To my knowledge MDT is the generic term and KDT is the term Motorola uses on
it's equipment. Our "terminals" at work have KDT on them and are from
Motorola.
