Anyone ever deal wth Lakeview.

I bought an On The Glass CB antenna 4 months ago. The antenna mast
snapped off. I called and asked about warranty. They immediately
accused me of hitting something with it, which I did not. I have two
(2 meter & scanner) other antennas placed right next to this one and
they are just fine. I am sending it back to them so the "can examine
it" (per the manager), to see if I hit anything. Then they will
decide if they will replace it then.

The antenna cost is $17.95.

Your thoughts are appreciated.

With that kind of poor customer service, and with all the other
compitition out there, I think it would be safe to say, DON'T DEAL WITH
LAKEVIEW ANTENNA COMPANY! If enough radio enthusiasits take this
position, I'm sure it will hurt their business.

Pro Am antennas are easier to adjust. You only have to do it once.

Piero:
Let me just say that if you want customer service, go with Larsen. Yes
they will cost a little more up front, and they might not look as
sleek as some, but you can't beat the warranty. 3 years. One time I
called them and said I had a probem with a dual band rubber duck, they
sent me a new one and said just destroy the old one, no questions.
Another time I had a coil on a 5 year old antenna crack (yes, I told
them I did not have a receipt and it was 5 years old), they still
replaced it free. Larsen has great customer service.

Yes Doug, I do that now. I was not the one originally with the customer
service problem, another person was, I was only replying to their post.
I had a bad experience with Lakeview employees (owner?) at the 1998
Dayton Hamfest and I will never deal with them again! He was rude and
ignorant. The others working behind the table said he was having a "bad
day", but he didn't have to take it out on me.

I have 3 Hamsticks. Two for more than 10 years. Dont like most on-the-
glass antennas though no experience with yours.

Have 9' 15m whip that I cut the coil out of and mounted home wound "bug-
catcher" for multi-band. Been in the air for 10 years w/no spring
either mobile or base. For 40/80 it gets bent over into an inverted-L
with extra 25' wire from end of whip to pulley/mast on the other side.

Also a 9' 2m Co-Linear (9007) w/out spring for 8 years (look out for
metal fatigue on fender) w/no breakage

However, I have heard of FG whips break from being hit by flying pebble.

For the price they are quite durable if not disposable.

I have used the Hamsticks and ordered them from lake view each time. Yes
I did back into something and snap my 40 meter hamstick off right at the
base. I got to see how they were made in doing so. Then the price for
the hamstick went up to $24 or something like that, an I felt the price
a little high. So I had already invented a new mount for my truck, only
works for someone with a real bumper, I designed a new mast, made my own
single band Hi-Q coil for 40 meters and 20 meters.
The difference between my homebrew Hi-Q (mush less bandwidth) system and
the hamstick, is I built the antenna for about the same price, and
the receiver came alive. With the hamstick I never had QRM problems
mobile, with the Hi-Q system I have to use filtering because the antenna
now has real ears not just, for lack of better words, and in Don
Johnson's words, "A dummy load on a stick". The hamstick works, and I
was impressed with how well it worked for 19.95. But after building my
own Hi-Q system, the hamstick is a " dummy load on a stick" for $24.95
plus shipping. If you don't have a real bumper, then the hamstick type
antenna is still your only option for low profile mobile work. My
antenna is only a foot longer then the hamstick and requires support at
the tailgate edge, but the performance was worth it. I run 50 watts PEP
from a TT Scout. For me I always want to own a real bumper.
These are my personal building experiences and comparisons.
