Radio One Sports 610 WFNZ Charlotte/92.7 WFNZ-FM Harrisburg NC has
announced the appointment of Jeff Rickard as Program Director.

Rickard most recently spent five months as Brand Manager of Audacy Sports
93.7 WEEI Boston and its regional network across New England before exiting
in January. Rickard joined WEEI in August 2021 from Emmis’ “93.5/107.5 The
Fan” WIBC-HD2 Indianapolis where he served as PD/Morning Host. He also
hosts shows for SiriusXM. Rickard previously served as a a host for ESPN
Radio, Sporting News Radio, KKFN Denver, and Comcast’s CN8 regional
television network in the northeast and programmed KFNZ Salt Lake City from
1999 to 2004.

Rickard fills the programming slot that had been held by Terry Foxx until
his move to the University of Texas Public News/Talk 90.5 KUT Austin in
February.

Radio One Charlotte’s Heritage Sports Talk Station WFNZ AM/FM welcomes
veteran industry talent and programmer, Jeff Rickard, as the new Program
Director for Charlotte’s Sports Leader effective Monday, May 16, 2022.

Jeff has an extensive sports broadcasting and management background working
for COMCAST TV, ESPN Radio, and Sirius XM. He hosted “Gamenight” on ESPN
Radio and serving as the managing editor and anchor of a Boston-based
program on the Comcast Network. Most recently, Jeff was the Brand Manager
for WEEI in Boston and for seven years prior to that the Program Director
and Morning Show host for WFNI The Fan in Indianapolis. He has also
frequently been called upon to host pre or post game shows from the
Superbowl, Final Four, and CFB National Championship games.

“We are committed to making sports radio even bigger in Charlotte, adding
the 92.7 FM signal in March was just the beginning of that commitment,”
said Marsha Landess, Regional Vice President. “Having a successful veteran
like Jeff Rickard join our team will help take us to the level that a
passionate sports city like Charlotte deserves. Jeff brings to WFNZ
extensive sports experience, talent, drive, and a passion for success. He
will be a great complement to our incredibly talented local Charlotte
on-air team. After our first conversation I knew he was the one to take us
to the next level. As the flagship station for the Charlotte Hornets as
well as Charlotte FC we are looking forward to an incredibly successful
future with Jeff leading the charge.”

“I had been planning on taking a professional sabbatical this year but
after meeting with Marsha Landess and learning more about Radio One, I
began to get more excited to get back to work.” Jeff continues, “Radio One
as a Company, combined with Marsha’s leadership and the potential for WFNZ,
was just too appealing to not be a part of. I am extremely grateful to
Radio One for this opportunity and can’t wait to start working with the
talented staff in Charlotte. My family and I are all in on this situation
and can’t wait to get started on this new chapter.”

Eastlan/FMR Associates: 31% Increase In Radio Listening Last Six Months

Posted: 16 May 2022 03:18 PM PDT
https://radioinsight.com/headlines/226025/eastlan-fmr-associates-31-increase-in-radio-listening-last-six-months/

Eastlan Ratings and FMR Associates have released their annual study on
radio listenership to clients.

The study notes that compared to six months ago, 31% of 25-64 year olds
state they are listening to more radio now per week, while 18% say they are
listening to less. The greatest demo increase was adults 25-44 at 37%.

Eastlan/FMR also states that within all 25-64 year-olds surveyed, 86% say
they listen to some radio during each week.

A study was conducted in March/April for FMR Associates and Eastlan Ratings
clients to determine usage levels of local AM-FM Radio as compared to six
months ago and how listening may differ based on radio market size or
geography.  Among the many findings were three positive signs for radio
post-pandemic:

1. In the last six months, Weekly AM-FM Radio Listening is on the increase:
31% indicate they are listening to radio more, compared to 18% less. This
finding is regardless of sex, age or market rank. This unique finding bodes
well for traditional radio growing as the pandemic comes to an end and even
as more audio options such as podcasts and streaming platforms are
available.

 2. While Weekly AM-FM Listening is up across all ages as compared to six
months ago, it is greatest among adults 25-44 at 37%. Men and women are
equally increasing their listening time with AM-FM Radio. More people going
back to work, commuting and some cutting back on subscription audio or
video services are among the primary factors cited for increased AM-FM
consumption.

3. Current weekly AM-FM Radio Listening is at 86% in the 25 to 64 age
group. Significantly, cume listening is strong and consistent regardless of
age, sex, market rank or geographic region.

The statistically projectable national survey of 25 to 64 year-old adults
from the thousands surveyed each month by Eastlan was demographically
balanced and geographically representative.

Posted: 16 May 2022 06:00 AM PDT
https://radioinsight.com/headlines/225082/may-the-fourth-be-with-107-9-sacramentos-return/

Update 5/16: After six days of the smart speaker listening back part of the
pre-launch stunt, iHeartMedias 107.9 KSTE-FM Sacramento has moved on to
another new phase.

KSTE-FM is now promoting the recently launched Talkback feature on the
iHeartRadio app featuring listeners leaving messages and song requests.
Clips heard include people making suggestions for the new format, a guy
giving Sacramento history lessons, and statements about current events.

Update 5/10: After six days of looping one or a group of songs, the
stunting on iHeartMedias 107.9 KSTE-FM Sacramento moves in a completely
different direction.

The station is acting today as if its monitoring peoples smart speakers and
airing their recordings with gaps of silence in between. Sweepers are
emphasizing listening such as Listening with anticipation, The New 107.9
and Listening so closely you can almost feel it. A brief edited clip
removing the longer silence gaps in-between is attached.

Tuesday, May 10 through Sunday, May 15 featured clips of people talking
themed around smart speakers listening

Original Report 5/4: After Entercom surrendered the license for 107.9 KDND
Sacramento in February 2017 rather than risk having its license renewal
hearing hold up the then-pending acquisition of CBS Radio, iHeartMedia has
brought the allocation back on the air for the first time since.

iHeart, which won the rights to what is currently 107.9 KSTE-FM Sacramento
in FCC Auction 109 last summer for $6,146,000, resumed operations today
with a May 4 oriented loop of the Star Wars theme.

We expect various stunting to continue over the next few days as a new
TheNew1079.com website is promoting a giveaway of Celtic Woman concert
tickets to start on Sunday, May 8 for Mothers Day.

We have reported on multiple rounds of domain registrations made for
KSTE-FM since shortly after the auction last August.
